W7 sleep mode fails after installing X2

Post by orpioneer »

I'm hoping someone may have some ideas for this. After installing X2 (and both updates) on my new Windows 7 machine the computer began giving me a blue screen every time it woke from sleep mode. I had previously installed VS 10+ on the machine, by the way, without encountering this problem. Even after uninstalling X2 the problem continued, and since internet searches say problems waking from sleep mode are most often fixed by BIOS or driver updates, I'm trying figure out what drivers X2 may have installed that made Windows 7 so unhappy. Since then the BIOS has been updated (by hubby, not me), and both the mouse and screen drivers updated. The video card driver was already full up to date.

I really don't want to turn off the Sleep function, that's a lot of power wasted with a machine like this (which I bought specifically for video editing).

When I upgraded to Win7 I had problems with sleep mode shutting down the computer while I was rendering overnight. Since rendering typically takes a huge chunk of time, having your computer go to sleep after half an hour or so into it is counterproductive. So, I switched it off and had no problems with it since. If you are concerned about power consumption, just shut the computer down manually when you are done. It just takes two mouse clicks.
