HD editing in Video Studio 12

Post by stuart_f »

Hi
I want to edit some HD footage andI can find the output format for Blu Ray/HD (via Sharing), but when I try and set up the project template I only seem to get the MPEG option of 720 x 576 and can't seem to edit it to 1920 x1028

Obviously I want to retain the original HD resolution in the project during editing - does the project do this anyway or do I need to change the template settings please and if so how do I do it?

NB I'l b using proxy editing option anyway but I wanted to make sure that it is reatinoing the full HD information for final output rathe than upscaling it

Any help welcomed!

Hi

A little annoying I must agree not being able to set the project properties to HD sizes.
But its not a problem, Just make sure the Aspect ratios are 16:9.
What you see is just a preview and does not show the full quality of the finished video.

When you Share Create Video File there are several options for rendering the project to HD.
If the option Same as First Video Clip is available then your project should be converted to your video clip properties.

HDV, BluRay and AVCHD are available.
You also have the option to use the Make Movie Template Manager to create your own templates.

But it really depends on what you are going to make?
Do you have a Bluray burner and Bluray player, or are you making a standard DVD.

As I say the project properties are not a problem, although choosing Same as Project Properties will convert the project to a new standard definition file.

Hi Trevor

Thanks a lot for the helpful response and the prompt reply.

I have set up the project temlate as you describe and am hoping to output both to DVD and also Blu Ray format (just bought an LG Blu Ray burner - will install and give it a try).
BTW I downloaded the tiral version of VideoStusio Pro x3 to give that a try before I buy - I must say it definitely seems faster than Studio 12 when editing AVCHD.

I'm finding the DVD factory a bit slow and cumbersome though - maybe I just need to get used to it - to be honest I don't want yet anther program indexing all my media files - tends to slow things up especially as I've got a lot of MP3s .

Anyway thanks a lot for thge help again - onwards and upwards - I must say I am generally a big fan of Studio - used it in various versions for a number years and it's a cracking product overall.

The DVD Factory 2010 is not fit for purpose--that’s being polite--Corel have provided DVD Movie factory 7SE as a replacement, a separate program but is very similar to the burning module for X2 (provided when you buy) Using X3 you have to create a video file to complete the project. Then use X2 or MF7se to burn the DVD

Hi Trevor

Yes I concur+ about the DVD Factory - it's pants!!!!

I ended up using Studio 11's DVD burner (as I have had problem with DVD preview on Studio 12)

That seemed to work OK with the 720 x 576 output MPEGs fropm Studio 13.

However when converting AVCHD 1280 x 1098 outputs from Studio 13 to DVD format it seems to mess up the audio so it is trailing about 3 seconds behind!

I'm hoping it won't do that when converting the AVCHD for BluRay (after I replace the new drive I just received with one that writes Blu Ray and doesn't just read it    )

Thanks Trevor that worked a treat - much appreciated
Corel have provided DVD Movie factory 7SE as a replacement
I am thinking about whether or not to buy the Video Studio Pro V3, but obviously want to have something that burns the DVDs with it that works. If I buy the full version do I have to pay extra for DVD Movie Factory 7SE as a replacement or how is it provided please?

Hi Stuart

DVD Movie Factory 7SE is a free download, but only available when you have purchased X3.

With X2-Share Create Disc opens a burner module within the actual program., it is possible to add a project file to this module.

With X3 you cannot add a video project to the burner module, you have to use a video file. So your project/video is completed by Share Create Video File.

X3 Share Create Disc gives the option to use Factory 2010, or Movie Factory 7SE, choose the latter.
At this point X3 will close, Movie Factory 7SE will open.
The new video file is then added to DVD Movie Factory 7SE in the same way as using X2. (Add Media-Add Video File)

As you own X2 you could use that to author / burn your disc. I use X2 because it gives me the option to save personal folders to the same DVD disc, one way of archiving my images.
(Correction:-
Just noticed Movie Factory 7SE also gives the option to save personal folders.)

The X2 burner module is very similar to DVD Movie Factory 7SE.

Trevor

I purchased the full version and downloaded SE7

It may be me but I have to say I find it far less flexible and easy to use then than the Movie Wizard and DVD creator that came with my Ulead Video Studio 11 which I am now using intead for movie/DVD output.

For example there are far more templates with that than appear to come with SE7 - I've tried downloading the Get More ones from X3 but keep getting a message about installing which they never seem to do.

I can't work out how to change the title on the movie templates either.

I'm also stuck with the awful bloaty Movie Factory 10 which I can't uninstall as it doen't appear on my Uninstall programs list. I know I won't dream of using it but I don't like cloggin up my system and hard drive with waste!!!

All in all I wish it was possible just to by Studio 13 in its own only because it seems faster at AVCHD editing and I don't feel that the £50+ for upgrade just for that we very good value.

Rant over!!
