Awful Text Tool Bug
When selecting any vector text with the pick tool, the selection box around it leaves a small gap of space at the end of the line of text. This makes it impossible to automatically horizontally center the selection with the pick tool.
This really should have been fixed by now.

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
Should it have been? I hate to sound like I'm disagreeing with you, as I too would have liked to have seen it fixed by now, but whether or not it "should" have been fixed by now is really hard to say. It could be a simple thing to fix, or it could be part of a larger problem. Has anyone seen the code for PSP? Can one of the engineers tell us?
Keep in mind that while it was reported within the first week so were a lot of other far more serious bugs and problems. Program stabilization has been the number one priority in the past two patches. And they still have quite a few to go that may be considered a higher priority. And if it were a simple bug I can honestly say most of simplest bugs to fix are the hardest to find and work out properly.
However, smaller things have also been "fixed" and or changed so I am inclined to agree with you to a point. If it were simple I don't understand why it would not have been fixed by now. I can only assume that they don't consider it a priority or it's not quite as easy as we would assume it should be. Either way just keep reporting it to Corel and maybe it'll start gaining priority. There is still hope that a number of problems will be patched with the third upcoming patch that we keep hearing so much about.
We shall see.

Hi to all
I have escalated it as an enhancement request and mentioned that version X2 doesn't have this space.

Any word on this? It really does throw a wrench into things when it's impossible to do an alignment due to the fact that there's extra space at the end of the text. I'm finding I'm going back to PSP X to do the text inputs.

I doubt it.
If/when this is finally fixed it will be called a 'new' version!
(Then there will be lots more bugs to get annoyed over).
If you are listening Corel ...: remember that wonderful invention 'Beta testing'?
That would have shown up most of the bugs before the paying customer ended up with them...

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
Don't be so pessimistic. I've spoken with the people at Corel and a fifth patch is also coming, I don't know when but they are working on it. Who knows what will be fixed in that one. But more fixes are coming before new versions.
Even if they don't fix it before X4, possible new patches offer something to hope for.

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
Hehe, I love an optimist.
To be even more pessimistic, or should that be realistic..
Unless Corel get their act together and produce a version of PSP worth paying for, I don't hold out much hope for the future of PSP.
There are so many free image editors available, with more appearing all the time, plus free on-line editing, why would anyone want to pay money for something that is getting more and more behind the times.
Corel used to have Xara in their stable, did nothing with it for years, then Xara managed to regain control over their product and now have something to be proud of.
Can't say the same for Paint Shop Pro.

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
When profitable productivity depends on your editing tools you'll probably skip the free or online versions. I've edited images in the passenger seat of the car while the wife drives so online wouldn't be any good for me and I'm not going to base anything profitable off of a free program. I'll pay for speed and accuracy. With that said Corel is seriously putting a cramp in my ability to put food on the table. Photoshop CS5, while being a much bigger price tag, seams the next logical step. No malice towards Corel, I just need things to work. I once had Photoshop Elements and PSP 9 at the same time and Elements was so much less that I stuck with Corel. But now I'm practically left with no choice.Joelle wrote: There are so many free image editors available, with more appearing all the time, plus free on-line editing, why would anyone want to pay money for something that is getting more and more behind the times.

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
I 'investigated' your site, nice work!
If wishes were granted, hah, I would wish that Jasc and the excllent team of developers were still about.
No such luck though, you can't set the clock back.
Soon after Corel took over they sacked the whole team and closed the Minneapolis offices, (most likely because they have too many chiefs who cost a fortune to keep going and no money for the people who develop the program) and that was that.
It's a great shame, it was an excellent program.
I am too old to go down the route of Photoshop (I have triied it and didn't like it one bit) but if it delivers something that other programs don't deliver there isn't much choice.
Xara is great, is increasingly developing the image editing side, but is still mainly a vector based program.
It's VERY fast, I love that

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
It's only realistic in the sense that you used a real example.
I mean I would like to hear your definition of something "worth paying for." Best to just wait and see. Something you can do even if you move on to other products.
Also didn't like Xara, very slow on my system. Tried it again on my new one and still struggles in areas. Which is odd their renderer is supposed to be one of the better ones out there. Even when they did go slightly open source for Linux they never released their render code.
There are many things I don't like about Photoshop but after learning quite a bit about it I could potentially adapt to it. I do own a copy that I bought on the student discount. And I still prefer Paint Shop Pro even with broken down X3. But the potential to change is there if I ever need it.

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
I'm bumping my own thread because it's been two years and this still has not been fixed. I can get around this by converting the text to a single shape vector and then re-centering, but this is annoying if I'm still changing the lettering at all. Is centering text such a rare occurrence that this isn't important to fix?

Re: Awful Text Tool Bug
Who knows.
During the last two betas it has been re-submitted as a bug. But still no fix. No one at Corel is explaining the issues at hand. It's getting very very annoying. I created a script to center the text without losing out text editing abilities but it only works with centering and does not work with things like aligning to other items. So it's not as good as I would like, though that's more laziness of my part than anything.
One workaround, if you don't mind a few extra steps is create a rectangle or duplicate the text. Either way have a different vector object work as a template. If you duplicate the text and the convert the duplicated text to a single object you can then position this item anywhere on the screen. Use the automated centering and alignment options.
Once you have the text where you want it, you can force the original text object to match along the top and left edges as your duplicated text object.
..........
Scratch that. Just continue to use the new text object hiding the original. No point in making it harder than necessary. And if you need to adjust the text you can delete the duplicated text and edit the original text. Then duplicate the original again and begin re positioning.
I agree it's annoying and it makes very little sense as to why it hasn't been properly fixed in two versions of the program. Very frustrating when Simone declared it would never be fixed in X4 only to also not have it fixed in X5. They improved many other portions of the text tool why is this area so different? Until we hear from Corel, we may never know.
Even more interesting is some people don't even experience this bug at all.

Much appreciated Simone. I wouldn't expect you to answer if you didn't know. It's always hard on users to know things like this exist without knowing why they persist.
So thank you for taking the time to help.
