I install recently downloaded VSx3. After installation, I get a side by side error message telling me to look at event log or use sxstrace.exe. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled. No luck. Here is what the event log shows. I am using an Acer laptop with Home Premium Windows 7. VS is the only program on my computer that is having this opening problem.
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3\vstudio.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.ATL,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
Very frustrated, thanks for any help.

What does Event Viewer say?
Either way it looks like you have a corrupted download and you will need to download again.

This is an issue with the Windows OS, you need to remove C++ Redist and then re-install them. It could be corrupted or damaged, you might need to use a tool to remove them from your system.
You should have 2005 and 2008 C++ Redist located under the Add or remove or Programs and features depending on what version of Windows you are using. Remove all of them and then re-install. You can get the installers from Microsoft.com

Re: side by side error when trying to open VSx3
Tried that for several days, but thank goodness right after posting this question I finally fixed it. There is a Microsoft 'security fix' for those redistributable files. After installing them, the program opens with no problem. I think it is sad that I had to go on a Google dumpster dive search for days to find some link of information on that. But the issue was Microsoft, not Corel. Thanks all!
