I have installed DVD MovieFactory 4 successfully. I can import video but there's no sound. I know version 4 is a "dinosaur" - but, so am I and it has served my purposes perfectly for the many years I have owned it.
Does anyone know how I can get this wonderful program to work with Windows 7?
Thank you,
Karen
DVD MovieFactory 4 - No Sound with Windows 7
Re: DVD MovieFactory 4 - No Sound with Windows 7
I have no idea about running it on Win7, and I have no idea if the audio problem is related to Win7 or something else.... Of course, when you update your operating system you often have to update your applications, hardware, and drivers.
If I recall correctly, MF4 wasn't designed to run on Vista, so I think you're a couple of operating systems behind...
What format is your audio that you're feeeding in? Do you know if your version of MF4 supports Dolby audio? (The SE versions probably don't.)
And before you upgrade to MF7, download the trial version... Just in case it's not a Win7 problem.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm pretty sure Windows 7 is the problem. My old XP machine developed a serious video driver problem right at the time I got the new PC. I think it knew it was being replaced. My hope is to get the XP machine back in working order and be able to run DVDMF4 on it. I am, so far, not a fan of WIndows 7 at all. We dinosaurs resist change - sometimes with good reason.
I'm working with tv programs I've recorded on very old Sharp HDD recorders. Each show has a VIDEO_TS file with the video being in .vob format. I can import the video but it has no sound. I have edited the video and created the "DVD" in a folder. The created "DVD" has sound. So, I'm thinking DVDMF4 doesn't play well with Windows 7. I've tried several different codecs and haven't gotten anywhere yet. As a stubborn old dinosaur, I'll not give up easily. The problem is finding the time to experiment.
I'll let you know if I find anything that works.

Did your Sharp HDD recorder, record the audio in Dolby Digital? Are you using DVD MF 4 Standard or Disc Creator? I think you need the Disc Creator version to be able to have the Dolby Digital audio.
You're correct, DVD MF4 will not like Win7, it doesn't even play well with Vista..

Re: DVD MovieFactory 4 - No Sound with Windows 7
Just to say that Ive had alot of trouble with audio also - mainly with formats and their related mp3 audio. Im using MF7 with XP SP3. My files are usually conversions from my mobile (that MF has trouble working with), that I have converted to avi/xvid. My videos work absolutely fine with their video and related audio playing in both VLC and WMP, so I assume everything should be ok in MF.
All these videos add to MF7, but in both the preview and final outputted dvd, there is no sound at all. If video players, and even windows xp, recognises the fact that my files DO have audio, I can only put it down to a flaw with MF7. I have tried more than one tool in the past to convert my 30 second videos to avi or xvid, yet MF still has problems. There could of course be some initial information that my converted files may be missing, that MF needs to notice/find/use my video's audio, but I have no idea how to check or correct this basic information.. I have tried downloading some avi adverts from the internet, and other formats also, all of these seem to work with their audio playing in MF, without any editing or conversion, so it would seem that the conversion tools (or recording tool in your case) may lack some information that MF needs to recognise the fact that some files do have audio - perhaps you have a similar problem, if its not just Win7?
On the other hand, if WMP and VLC can play my files easily with their audio no problem, and list the audio details in its properties box, I dont really see why MF should have any issues. My converted family video files own audio properties clearly show MPEG-Layer3, usually up to 128Kbps, with a duration up to around 30 seconds or slightly more, yet MF7 does not play any sound when these video files are added to it at all. I think all of these problems I have had with MF must be all down to my bad luck, lol
Good luck! I hope u get your own problem sorted
