I have a Toshiba notebook with Ulead Movie Factory for Toshiba pre-installed. It is having problems loading a DVD I created from my own camera onto a DVD recorded in a Panasonic DVD recorder (it plays ok on the notebook). It gets to 61% and then hangs forever. This happens regardless of whether I try to load the files directly from the DVD, or copy them to the hard drive and try to load them from there.
I tried to update the software, which is currently version 5.51.0119.0 SE2, but when I run the updates for version 5 of Ulead Movie Factory, they tell me that they can't find an installed version of Ulead Movie Factory 5 on my system.
The Toshiba notebook is a Satellite L45 running Vista with an Intel core duo processor, 2 GB ram, and most recent updates from Microsoft.
So my questions are:
Is it possible to update my version of Ulead Movie Factory for Toshiba?
Will an update fix the hanging problem?
Thanks.

Re: Ulead Movie Factory for Toshiba Upgrade
I don't think you can apply the updates to the "free" SE versions. It won't cost you anyting to download the trial version of MF7. The best solution would be to find software that actually works with DVDs burned with your DVD recorder. So, I recommend that you try-out MF7 as well as the competition.I tried to update the software, which is currently version 5.51.0119.0 SE2, but when I run the updates for version 5 of Ulead Movie Factory, they tell me that they can't find an installed version of Ulead Movie Factory 5 on my system.
Some other things you can try -...a DVD I created from my own camera onto a DVD recorded in a Panasonic DVD recorder (it plays ok on the notebook). It gets to 61% and then hangs forever. This happens regardless of whether I try to load the files directly from the DVD, or copy them to the hard drive and try to load them from there.
Make sure you've "finalized" or "closed" the DVD (This is done by the DVD recorder that makes the DVD.)
After copying to your hard drive, you can try re-naming the VOB files to MPG and try opening the MPG files. There are instructions on the VideoReDo website for joining the individual VOB files using DOS/Windows commands. And VideoReDo ($50-$7 USD) includes a repair tool/function that can repair some VOB/MPG files. (Sometimes a slightly corrupted MPEG will play fine, but cause trouble when you try to edit, convert, or make a DVD from it.)
There is also a FREE program called VOB2MPG.
In many cases, SUPER (FREE!!!) can "repair" a file by re-encoding it. But, re-encoding or transcoding can degrade video quality, so it's generally a last resort.
