Patch Error

Post by hobga »

Hello!
I have been avoiding using my software because it seems to be so problematic. - I have X2 Ultimate and it works, but freezes. I have tried to run the patch, but I get this error:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program."

I also get this message for Painer Essentials 4 - which does not work at all. It simply never loads.

In case the post does not include my system info, I have a 2.2gh Amd Turion Dual-Core, 64bit, 4gig ram, and radeon HD 3200 graphics.

Any suggestions?
Thank you!

I know this is going to sound like a dumb question but I have to ask. Are you sure you're using the correct patch?

It's a fair question, one that I asked myself several times. Yes I believe so.

With Win 7 in general, many installers must be run in admin mode by a user logged on with admin rights. To run an .exe install right click on it, then I think properties or advanced properties, then run as admin. Without those privilages you can get file access errors to applications especially anywhere down in a Program Files folder tree.

I'm a happy XP user but these are the general suggestions I've seen in the cases for VISTA and especially for Win 7 users.

You might try Updating from the help menu as then at least PSP X2 will be found But you might already be patched to 12.01. If by Chance you are running Norton 360 You might like to remove that

My guess is that you're trying to run the 12.01 patch on PSPP X2 Ultimate Edition. That patch is only for the older (i.e. non-ultimate) version of X2, which is version 12.00.
The Ultimate edition is 12.50, and there really are no patches for it, except a tiny raw camera update.

Thank you for your responses - yes, the version of x2 I have is 12.5, so I guess I don't need the windows patch right? I am disappointed in how slow it loads. - and It freezes after each input. I thought the patch would help - On to the bigger problem, Painter 4 - it will not load at all, except on very rare occasions.... then if i close it and open it again, it will lock up.

I thought it might have something to do with being in the Program Files (x86) directory so I reinstalled it in the Program Files directory. Same problem. - it will show the splash screen and then sit "not responding" until I close if from the task manager. Is this program somehow dependent on the PSP x2 program?

It is 32bit right?

As I understand it 32 bit applications go in the X 86. They are then converted on the fly to 64 bit as required.
Painter is a separate programme to PSP x 12.5. If you delete the cache files in Apps data corel, they will be remade next time you open the programme and you may get a speed increase

I removed it everything, reinstalled painter - and it hung up in the install process. - during "copying files"
I restarted and it did the same thing. So I attached an external cd drive and reinstalled, and as per suggestion, turned off all spyware, and disabled all non critical software. The program installed, and I ran it from its home directory as admin and it ran.

I was afraid to turn off the painter 4 :)

But I had it running (after making a few nice renderings of a concert I attended) for a couple days and decided, I need to see if I can start it up again.

I closed it, and tried to restart from the start menu - Hung up.
I closed it from the task manager and restarted the program from home directory with admin privl. - hung up.

Seems to only one one time after a fresh install.
What's going on?

Hi hobga
I had the same trouble with Painter Photo Essentials 4 and got on the Corel help site, E mailed them, and was told to call the help phone #.
I did and was told PPE4 does not work on Win 7 and they gave me a free download for the full Painter Essentials 4 (which includes the photo module).I thought that was very generous of them since the full version is now $50.
Yesterday I saw there is an update and tried to install it and got the same error message that The updater cannot find the program....

I have about had it with Corel and their half baked programs.
Though relatively inexpensive, they are way too problematic!!!
I am about to order a Wacom Intuos 4 (medium) Tablet, and Wacom offers Adobe Elements8 as a free download when you purchase.
To make this even better, they have a promotion in conjunction with Adobe to upgrade Element to PS CS5 for only $299 ( half retail).
I would never had paid full price for CS5 but 50% off is way too tempting!
I realy don't need the full complexity of PS, and have for 4 years made do with PSP, but I've reached my limit of tolerance with Corel.
