Changing volume on background music VS X3

Post by lisaviolet »

Okay, guys, I'm in some serious need of help here. I've searched the forums, printed out what I thought I needed and tried following the instructions. I'm failing miserably.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... +x3+rubber

I know I've done this on previous versions of VS, but am having a bear of a time in VS X3.

I've read and re-read the audio portion of the manual (ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/documentation/m ... o%20X3.pdf) which hasn't helped me at all.

I have a photo slideshow with some video clips thrown in. I also have background music. In the video clips, I'd like to lower the volume of the background music. I've been trying to figure out how to do this since yesterday evening.

From http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14895

"In your VS9 screen, down at the very bottom left of screen, you have three vertically-placed buttons beside the timeline (slightly above it in VS 10). The first is represented by a film strip icon. If you click on that, you are in storyboard mode. Click on the next one, with a ruler icon, and it is timeline mode. But the one under or beside that is audio mode with a little speaker icon. Choose that one.

"Now, in the main video track, instead of your thumbnails, you will see a solid pale blue panel, with a black line running through the middle from end to end, and with a small black box at either end of the line. That line is the so-called 'rubber band', with the line representing the current level of the audio on that clip (think of it again as the 100 mentioned above). Now, to raise the volume of the whole track, you need to raise the line; to lower the volume, you lower the line."

I have no little speaker icon. I can see no way of "rubber banding" to lower the volume of "I've Been Working on the Railroad" to hear the dulcet tones of my BFF as she tries to figure out how to work her husband's camera.

I'm probably overlooking something really simple, but I'm just not seeing it. Please help me see the error of my ways!

And wouldn't ya know, the minute I ask for help, I find my answer.

It's in the Sound Mixer function. I can see the lines! I can see the lines! Onto rubberbanding (which sounds like some cruel torture method).

So....

Nevermind.

Yes, for others that may be looking for it, it is the music note/waveform icon that is above the timeline.

Hi Lisa

To increase or reduce the overall volume of a clip.
First close the sound mixer........

Select the clip in the timeline.
Select the blue Options button to the far right, opens the options panel.

The volume controls for the clip are immediately to the right of the digital clock.
Reducing the 100% will lower the volume.
The speaker icon will mute the whole clip.
The ramps will fade in-out the volume.

Thanks, Trevor. It wasn't the entire clip I wanted to lower the volume on, just about a ten second portion of it, then I wanted to put it back to normal. I've got a photo slideshow, a couple of very short video clips with audio, then back to the slideshow. The background music is the same throughout, I just wanted the audio on the video portions to be heard over the background music.

And I found the solution when I opened the mixer.
