Can't seem to find this in search
Using VSPX3, I'm having a hard time with mp3 audio files:
When trying to add mp3 to my library I get no preview success (autoplay or manual). I still can add them without preview though.
When editing in timeline I cannot hear when playing in "clip playback mode". In fact, It wont play at all, but jumps from begining to end immediately. I cannot play them in library either
BUT All audio editing in timeline works fine in whatever track, only if I'm under the "project playback mode" option.
The add file preview option would be nice to easily choose my song with success.
I'm pretty sure these problems only happen with mp3s and not other formats (i.e. wav)
add files preview and....

Some MP3's, especially those made with the LAME codec, can cause problems. Rendering them to a WAV file usually is the fix.
BTW, I regularly use MP3's produced by iTunes that I don't have problems with in VS.

Strange, as I have been using VS9 heavily since 2005 and had none of these issues or problems I'm talking about the exact same music files. Just a small annoying glitch where VS9 works perfectly. I'm puzzled as to how a codec causes no problems in VS9 yet issues in X3. Not a 64 bit W7 thing?

Hi
Same as Jeff, I use MP3 without problems, although I keep the bit rate to 192, found I has some problems above this rate.
Adding clips allows me to preview/play the clip before importing.
Have you manually updated Direct X, there is a link at the top of this forum.?
I would use DirectX Redist (June 2010) option
Download, extract files, install extracted files.
Have you Installed all Video Studio patches.?
Maybe install :-
Latest Windows Media Player.
Install Windows Media Encoder.

Re: add files preview and....
Searching for bit rate I found http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 92#p199710 Yes, converting the mp3 to wav with create audio file works, but does not really help as I have hundreds of mp3s and it's too tedious to convert all just to get the prieview and autoplay to work as each must be renamed. Each one must be converted individually as there is no way I see to batch them. I cannot believe this later version of VS is below par to VS9 in this department. I wonder if this issue exists in 10 or x2?
I have installed all patches and encoders. Thank you. This was not the fix. Would you point me to keep the bit rate to 192 proceedure, as I cannot find the method?

Re: add files preview and....
Hi Nick
I use Real Player to play my sound files, when I insert an audio cd I am asked if I would like to save the clips to my hard drive and Real Player library.
I can choose to convert to MP3 and choose the bit rate set to192.
I can e-mail you a sample audio created to a bitrate of 192 if that would help, at least you would see if the bit rate is causing the problem, If acceptable send a Private Message with your e-mail address.
By the way VS used to provide Real Player as part of its utilities, I know VS 10 did have this option.
Installing the latest version of Windows Media Player and the Windows Media Encoder did install some codecs.
So have you updated your media players to the latest version.

I have just had the same problem when using Mp3 audio saved with a 96 kbps bit rate.
I have quite a lot of samples and all give problems.
However I am able to add them to the timeline and Share Create Sound file will produce a Wav that does work.
So Video Studio can re-code the audio but not play it.
