View in 16:9 when Editing?

Post by Aperture_Star »

Hello,

I am brand new to this forum so thanks in advance to all those who respond. I am also new to video and editing so excuse the rather novice questions.

I am currently editing a 16:9 video, however in my editing preview screen it is automatically showing it in 4:3. And i can't get it to show me the preview of what i am editing in 16:9.

So how do i change the playback ration in the editing preview screen?

I am using Corel VideoStudio 12. Oh and on that topic how do i upgrade or update the software. I don't see any links or get prompted for software updates.

Thanks so much
BrianCee

OK - try this - click on 'File' then choose 'Project Properties' - a new dialogue box opens - you haven't said what your files are so select either MPEG files or Microsoft AVI files as required across the middle against 'Edit File Format' - then click on 'Edit' in the bottom right corner - another dialogue box opens with 3 tabs - choose 'General' then select 16:9 in the 'Display Aspect Ratio' box - check around all other items in that dialogue box checking every thing looks alright and click OK >> OK

Hopefully this has cured the problem and you should now see you video wide screen in the preview window with coloured bars top and bottom.

What we normally recommend is that you go to 'File >> Preferences' and when the dialogue box opens click to tick the box against "Show message when inserting first video clip into timeline" then 'OK' Now when you put your video in the timeline a message will pop up asking if you want to change the project properties to match the videos - say yes and your project will match your video not only giving you the correct display but also going a long way to retaining video quality - always make sure though that you put a video in the timeline first - if you put a picture or title first the properties will not change.

and make sure that VideoStudio X2 is selected in the drop down.
