Camera Recommendations

Post by metmot »

I recently sold my Canon HV30 on Ebay after learning it has a cult following and was still worth 90% of what I paid a couple years ago. I primarily bought it to film my son's HS football games under the lights which it did pretty well. I find the Mini DV format just to much work having to capture the video again in real time gets old fast and the cost of tapes seems unnecessary with mini hard drives for backup so cheap. So it's time to move on. This time my criteria is different and of course technology is moving right along. Time for a hard drive model and I would like something physically smaller although the HV 30 was fairly compact so doesn't have to be really tiny, just manageable. I like to film on a mono pod. My PC has plenty of power to edit any format as I have HD files taken with my Panasonic fz35 and Nikon D90 which I can handle well and to be honest that little Panasonic still camera takes better video than any camera I have ever owned other than the HV30. I would still like to own a dedicated video camera though and am looking for recommendations. I've got some dough to spend but really would like to stay around $800 or less.

Anyone have any thoughts?
John
