I need some work-flow advice. On my old XP I had both VS10+ and X2 installed, and each had their own video libraries, clips, plug-ins, down-loaded filters and so forth. (I was able to migrate some items from VS10 to X2 when both were on XP, but I missed the boat on being able to migrate the library manager because i had already added a lot of video clips to X2 before I learned how to do the library manager migration.) Recently I moved to a more powerful machine, with Windows 7. So I'm working with a clean slate and not only need to reinstall VS10 and X2 on this totally new operating system, but then move all my accumulated video libraries, added filters, clips, objects, and so forth, into the installed version of X2. I'm sure that not all the transitions, for example, that I had in VS10 will work in X2, but I want to move as much as possible and most important of all, I want to have all my video clip libraries in one place. I copied virtually my entire c drive from the XP machine (including the Application folders) onto an external drive that is now attached to the new machine, so I have all the old files associated withVS10 and XP. I just need some advice regarding the optimum order on installing, migrating, and dragging files (and where to past them in 7's new folder structure). I've been sifting through old posts and have seen a few hints here and there, but not the full picture of what I'm trying to do. So far I've installed VS10+, and added the bonus sound, image, and object files that came on the bonus CD. But I'm uncertain on the next best step. Like I said, this is a fresh start, and I want to get it right.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
p.s. I updated my machine profile but I can't tell if it is showing up.

Hi
There are several sections to the libraries, some are part of the software, transition effects are, I think .vfx files. The video filter sections are also part of the software.
I do not think it’s a good idea to add to these, you may end up experiencing errors and have to re-install the program.
Other library pages Video, Images, Audio, colour, decorations and so on…
allow the user to add files by using the Load folder icon, or simply drag and drop from windows explorer.
These are merely linked to files on the hard drive the default ones being installed during the program installation., right click any clip in the library and select properties, the name shows the location of the file on the hard drive.
The Extra Content with VS 10 contains sample clips, Video Audio, Images………….
Copy these to your hard drive and then import then to the library, in the same way as importing any clip. The library contents are saved to files called VS_Video.dll, VS_Image.dll, these can be saved to a safe location as backup.
For X2 and X3 the program allows you to export/import the library. Give it a go, export the library to your desktop, then view the folder content.
Basically from the library if you see the load folder option then its easy, if not then you are modifying the software so take care.

Re: Advice on reinstalling libraries, add-ons in Win7
Trevor
Thank you for looking at my question. Well since I'm starting from scratch on Windows 7, would you suggest I try to somehow get all the old VS10 libraries back into the reinstalled VS10 (maybe by moving the old dll files), and then import them into X2? Or is there a way to pull them directly from the old copied VS10 dll files into X2? I don't really expect to use VS10 anymore, but I did have a lot of libraries for it that I don't want to lose, especially my named video clip libraries.
It's not helping that Windows 7 isn't creating application files that seem to correspond with those I had in XP. After reading a bit on this forum I looked in Roaming after installing VS10 but there was no folder there for VS. I haven't installed X2 yet, because I wasn't sure if I should try to get all the libraries into VS10 before I took that step.

Re: Advice on reinstalling libraries, add-ons in Win7
Hi
I don’t really understand which library pages you wish to duplicate, copy from VS10 to X3, but I’m assuming it’s the Video library.
The Video Library page contains Thumbnails / Virtual clips representing the files on the hard drive. Moving the files will cause VS to request a re-Link
Video Studio 10
The video library page is saved to a VS_Video.dll file. I am not sure of its location for W7 but for Vista I think it will be:-
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0.
For XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\AppData\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0.
So copy this file from the old XP location to the new VS10 location, your installed VS10 should now show the old library video page.
If you receive a re-link then the file locations are not recognised. Lets see how you get on.
X3
Changing the library files may be easier.
X3 has the option to export/import the library.
Settings-Library Manager-Export the library to a folder on your desktop.
View the folder content replacing the VS_Video.dll file with the old VS 10 version
Settings – Library Manager-Import Library

Re: Advice on reinstalling libraries, add-ons in Win7
Well this is what I have so far. Since the VS 10 installation onto Windows 7 had not created a Ulead Systems folder in Roaming, I decided to go for broke and copied the entire Ulead Systems folder from the old Applications folder from the XP system and pasted it into the Roaming folder on Windows 7. However, when I ran VS 10 it utterly ignored the new Ulead Systems folder, it behaved exactly the same as when I first installed it on Windows 7, none of my old video libraries showed up, nor any of the extra filters or anything else. Even its load time remained unchanged.
So next I went hunting for the VS_Video.dll in my old XP folders. I eventually realized that the video library file created by the user was called VS_Video.dat though, and as you said, it does reside in
XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\AppData\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0.
Then I went hunting to see where Windows 7 was putting the video dat file, since it wasn't putting it in Roaming. It took a while to track down the correct file, but Windows 7 had actually placed it in a folder called
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files (x86)\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio10\ULEAD.DAT
This ULEAD.DAT folder is similar, but not exactly the same as the 10.0 folder on XP. It has many of the same files, but fewer, and it contains some files that resided at the Ulead Systems folder level on XP. (Windows 7 truly is different!) So, at this point I decided to try dragging the VS_Video.dat file from the 10.0 folder on XP to the ULEAD.DAT folder on Win7. When I ran VS 10 this time, sure enough, it showed all my old video clip libraries from the XP system, along with a request to relink to them. So this was a success I would say, though this Virtual Store folder on Win7 has the feel of a stop-gap measure, not a robust operating file. But perhaps it will last long enough to allow a library migration to X2. I'll report back on that after I install X2.

Hi
Some files and folders may be hidden by the operating system.
You have to change the option to Show Hidden Files and Folders
Open any folder on your PC
Tools-Folder Options-View
VS_Video.dat
Take care
There will be several of these files on your pc only one will be associated with the library pages.
The others being the system files used to create the default library pages from the Library Manager
I dont have W7 to help in locating these files.

Re: Advice on reinstalling libraries, add-ons in Win7
Trevor,
I got X2 and its 2 updates from the Corel site installed. The program opened fine though I noticed something odd right away, some of the still image clips that come pre-loaded in the image library were not working. I could see the thumbnail for the clip, but when I clicked on it all I got was a black screen in the editing screen. About 5 of the image clips were like that, the rest showed up fine in the editing screen.
After closing X2, I then replaced the library file ( VS_Video.dat)
in C:\ Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\CorelVideoStudio\12.0
with the library file ( VS_Video.dat) I had created when I was running X2 on my XP machine. After restarting X2, my old video clips and folders showed up right away in the video library. No need to relink because all my video files had already been stored on external drives which are now plugged into the new machine. (Though new drive numbers were assigned on the new machine so I did have to manually change the drive letters back to their previous letters.)
One thing I'm noticing though is that my clips look much worse when I play them in the X2 editor on this Win 7 machine than they did on my XP. Any kind of motion in the clip gets broken into horizontal lines. Interestingly though, the video clips that came pre-loaded with the X2 program play beautifully, very clear, clean and crisp. I have a feeling I haven't optimized or am missing some program that X2 uses, though I have the latest DirectX and QuickTime on the machine.
That is as far as I've gotten. I haven't had a chance to try importing my old VS10 library yet because after I installed X2 I started getting the blue screen of death every time I woke the computer up after it went to sleep. Need to figure that out, then I'll be able to try the importing process, which I've never used before. (But there is a nice Aug 2009 post on that process that I plan to try.)
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I know you guys like details when we describe problems, and some of this information might be helpful to others when they migrate to Win 7.
