Making a small repeating pattern

Post by sisom »

Hi, I am trying to make a small graphic (about 10px square) which repeats as the background image of a project, and then I want to fade the entire image from top to bottom, as you can see on the backgrounds of the various sections on this site:

I know how to make a small image, but how do I turn it into a 'fill' so that PI will automatically fill the entire background of an image with it?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You need to save your pattern to an image file. I use the web optimizer>PNG format, Selection Only. Then to use it, just select the Texture Fill Tool, and in the toolbar, choose Select Other texture, and navigate to where you saved your pattern image file. Also make sure you have set, Do Not Resize.

You can also add your pattern image to the Easy Palette Gallery, and then just drag and drop it onto the background. Just right-click on the My Galleries section of the Galleries tab, then select Add Fill Thumbnail, navigate to where you save your pattern image, and select it.

Thanks so much for your help, Ron, your instructions were really detailed and easy to follow, I've just made a 12 x 12 pixel diamond shape, used it as a fill, then applied a horizontal fade out, and created a really professional looking background for a website I'm working on.

Thanks!
