To try and cure a problem of X3 freezing I was previously advised by Corel support to do a clean reinstall of X3. Their instructions were for Vista and not all steps related to my Windows 7 [64bit], which produced a result that required some external help to resolve. But, eventually the program was running again and another question from me to Corel prompted their reply with a link to a site to download ‘dwwebsetup.exe’ which I did. The original problem is now so far back I can’t recall exactly how everything happened but the problem certainly isn’t cured.
Then I loaded the partially completed project I was working on previously and, after a few minor edits, added an auto sound track to the entire length of the project [after guidance from Alan Ball]. After that, when loading the project, it loaded the movie files and then a WAV file which I assumed was auto sound. It then tried to load another file and advised ‘0% Please wait’, a few millimetres of green appeared on the left hand side of the progress bar but it did not progress to the right and the progress bar then disappeared. After maybe ten seconds the project appeared, seemingly ready to go.
It then seemed to freeze after a few simple editing steps, so much so that I now save after each step [and have many opportunities to watch it and reload].
More importantly, it also freezes whenever I attempt to make a movie file in the ‘share’ section, with the cursor alternately flashing arrow or hourglass [much more rapidly than the occasional flash of the hour glass when it is successfully converting a file]. I tried a few different configurations of the options available for installing an auto sound track and they all achieved a soundtrack that played OK below the rest of the project but all still managed to freeze the program when trying to produce an MPG file.
When the auto sound is removed from the music timeline and the project is reloaded, the movie files load as previously, then a couple of other files load so quickly I can’t read what they are, but more importantly, I am able to create a video file from the project [for DVD 16:9].
So, to sum up, project freezes [and task manager shows ‘not responding’] when trying to create a video file if it contains an auto music track but creates file OK without an auto music track included. It seems likely that the culprit may have been the auto music track all along but does anyone have any suggestions why?

Hi Peem,
Could you please complete your system information found in the User Control Panel. I know you're running Win7, but there might be other information that would help us figure this out.
It sounds like there is a problem with your SmartSound QuickTracks. VS X3 uses QuickTracks 5.1.6.0. This can be uninstalled through the operating systems Control Panel>Program & Features. Check for Updates, as SmartSound did release a Service Pack..

Re: Automusic possibly freezing 'create video file'
In the past I had similar problems with Auto Music. What I did to get around the problem was:
1. Edit my video
2. Add the auto music and trim to fit
3. When ALL editing was done I created a sound file of the audio (Share>Create Sound File). This creates a WAV file. You can either do it for the entire project or just for you Auto Music tracks.
4. Replaced the original audio with the newly created sound file.
5. Render with no problems!

Hi
I agree with Jeff and also had problems with Auto Music in the past, slow to render.
Replacing with Wav files seems to do the job.

Re: Automusic possibly freezing 'create video file'
Thanks to all who offered suggestions. I have attempted to follow them but the results have been unsuccessful, as I will outline here. I wasn’t aware my system information was no longer displayed but have remedied that now. Working on the basis that autosound was the problem, I tried a few things.
I first used smart sound only a few weeks ago and, initially it spent quite a while installing everything. I thought at that time it was downloading it from the Internet but as related at the bottom of the next paragraph, my attempts to reinstall it suggest it comes as part of the V. S. X3 program download . My version is 5.1.6.0.
Clicking on “rebuild smartsound database’ in ‘about’ tab on the one SmartSound Quicktracks one 5 window produces the word ‘rebuilding’ and the little rotating part circle that shows the computer is doing something, both of which disappear after about five seconds, displaying nothing additional. Through the control panel I accessed ‘repair’ on the SmartSound Quicktracks 5 Install shield wizard which the eventually produced the message that it could not find the file C.:\users\Peter\AppData\ Local\Temp\Corel Video Studio Pro X3\X3\quick tracks five installer\ smart sound quick tracks 5.msi. Likewise, using the modify option led to a dead end [and I’m afraid I can’t remember why]. Using Revo program I uninstalled SmartSound Quicktracks 5 but could not work out how to reinstall it afterwards and so used ‘system restore’ to return to a point before the uninstall, and that is where things are at present.
If I do an install it, how do I get and uncorrupted version to reinstall?
I also tried creating a WAV file to replace the automusic file through ‘share> create sound file’ which eventually produced a window saying ‘encountered unexpected error’ and directing me to a dump file.
I just a tempted to submit this posting with the dump file attached but got a message that the extension dmp was not allowed so I guess I won't attach it.

Hi Peem
I think you may have to uninstall X3 then re-install, Smartsound should be installed as well.
If you have problems uninstalling X3 then view.

Also
There is a compatibility issue with Quick Time 7 and Smart Sound here (not to be confused with QuickTracks)
