I upgraded DVDWorkshop SE to WS 2 - Can I delete SE ??

Post by marotti »

Hello Everyone :)

I upgraded DVDWorkshop SE to WS 2 - Can I delete SE ??

The WS 2 box said that SE was required on the machine to validate my Upgrade, so why doesn't WS 2 ask if you want to un-install previous versions ??

If I un-install SE, might it screw up my WS 2 installation?

What about deleting shared files?

Thanks in advance for your support :!:

they are independent installations, and you can remove the SE version if you want to. There are some content pictures/vids that you might want to copy to a new folder (to use in your DVD WS 2 projects).

I guess it may not be as simple as that. It would depend on HOW you installed the full version. If you installed it to the same folder as the SE, overwriting the old one, then there is little hope. If you put it in an entirely separate directory, then you can uninstall the old one but if, in the process it asks you whether you want to eliminate any files that may be shared, I'd say don't take the risk of erasing those files.

A search may then reveal some odd files/folders that you can eliminate manually, by noting the dates, but it may be wiser simply to change one letter in the extension until you determine that the new one still works OK, after which you can delete them.

In any case, no harm will result if you keep the old one, as well.

Thanks Guys :!: :!:

Maybe I missed it in the documentation, I just wonder why they wouldn't mention this topic :?: :?:

BTW I am a long time RealDVD user, and I love that program... too bad it won't have any updates :-(

My next program is probably going to be Scenarist, but I just burned my first DVD with WS 2, and I am impressed

Can't wait to explore the possibilities

Thanks Again :!: :!:

I asked the same question in another forum and can confirm what Georgew says. If you want to keep any of the image files you will need to copy the folders elsewhere before uninstalling WS SE. Otherwise, no problems.

Hello,

Thanks for the confirmation, it is always reassuring to hear of recent experiences by more than one person :-)

I did the un-install and as you stated... no glitches!

Thanks everyone :-)
