Question re avi quality.

Post by blacktoad »

Hello
A question about output quality
What would be the likely cause of loss of or degradation of jpgs when made into a video clip.
800 images in jpg format all clear and sharp, after stitching together into a movie the result
is no where as clear as the images were.

Using
VideoStudio 10+

Also is there any way I can increase the number of images I can load to the timeline ?

Thanks for any advice :) :)

A little bit more information may help blacktoad - what is the size (in pixels) of the photos that you are inserting.

Will you also confirm that you are rendering the final project to .avi

Once you can produce a good quality output file the easiest way of getting more photos in a video would be to render out each batch to a video file then join two or more of them together in the timeline and render a single complete video - but do you really want more than 800 photos in one video - unless they are really superb and interesting it's going to get a bit boring for any one but you watching ?

Hi

Are you applying Pan & Zoom?
There was a problem with this and the Anti Flickering Filter.

Brian
I may be mistaken but I think Blacktoad is creating animations from still images, so his image duration could be as little as one frame.

Edit

Blacktoad I have just added 1600 + images to VS 10 timeline, its still going???????

Isn't this simply an issue with the resolution of the final video? If it is SD, it will be 640 x 480 for a 4:3 picture - well below the definition of most digital picture jpgs today. Loss of quality is inevitable. HD video will be much better of course.

Hi

The OP’s video frame size would be 768 x 576 being in AU and using Pal 4 x 3 and 1024 x 576 for widescreen, even so the difference is negligible.

I doubt if its just the difference between SD and HD quality. HD meaning BluRay.

I haven’t yet progressed to HD but my slide shows are excellent using SD video when played back on my HD TV.

I think we have to wait for blacktoad’s comments

Hi and thanks everyone for your interest,

The size of the jpg images are 1658x907.
Set duration of clip to 0:0:0:1
16.9 widescreen Pal
Project rendered to AVI

As I found I could only load about 300 images to the timeline at a time I done this in three seperate clips then joined
together into one avi but where the clips joined the video jumped ? a bit like joining 3sec frames into a video and find the out come not smooth as you had taught me earlier!
Never noticed this happen before when joining other vid clips and I have done few hundred or so.
I understand the image duration.but I dont think I can apply the same method to VIDEO clips ...or can I ?

Will downsize my clips in future

Thanks for any advice you can offer :D :D

No Pan or Zoom applied.

1600 images to timeline in one hit? how did you do that Trevor?

Hi Blacktoad

So the problem is after you have created the Avi, the images within each Avi being ok.
Some things to look for.

I had a problem when inserting images to the timeline regarding the image order, depending on how I inserted them. The first and last images being swapped over, View the project timeline to see if the last image is actually the correct one.
(Drag and Drop from windows Explorer—select all then drag the first image proved successful)

Are you using Fade between images, the first and last image will be proportionately longer, as only one end of the image has fade applied.

Video Playback Speed
You can change this, may affect quality.
Select video in timeline and then Playback Speed under Video Tab

My 1600 inserted images, not all at one time but in batches, although many images were duplicated, maybe that’s why it worked. I’ll run through it again.
