I just bought a new computer where I'm now using X2 Pro. My old computer used VS10+. And I took a two year break from video editing, so I'm trying to accelerate my relearning curve of this software and all the tricks I used to do with this program. If I want to review my previously completed projects on my new computer, by viewing the completed vsp files, so I can see how I did certain things, I know X2 Pro is going to ask me to relink the missing image and audio files that are part of the project. If the project used say, 30 images, and they all came from within one folder, will X2 Pro ask me to relink just the first image and automatically relink the other 29 because they are in the same folder, or do I have to relink every single image individually?
Another example: If I have 100 images in 10 folders (10 images per folder), do I have to relink 10 times or 100 times?
Thanks,

Re: Relinking Questions
Bryan,
It should relink all the photos if they are in the same place(s) as the first photo. Now if you have by chance moved them all over the place, then you will have to relink each of them. If you have numerous photos in numerous folders, AND those folders have not had the names changed, I think VS should be able to find them and relink. The better practice is to try and keep all clips in the same folder as the project. VS X2 does have a nice feature called Smart Package, which copies all clips used in the project placing them in a folder with the project file.

Re: Relinking Questions
Hi
As for the ten folders, yes it should re-link all images when you select the first. At least that’s what happened when I opened one of my VSP,s on another networked computer. Whether the VSP’s created with VS 10 acts the same as ones created with X2 is to be seen.
As you have two computers are they networked or have you transferred the clips to the new one.
In which case it would do one folder at a time.
If you have to move to a new folder it may re-link one at a time, if this happens, save the project then open it again to re start the re-link again. It should then re-link all again.
Best give it a go i think....

Re: Relinking Questions
Thanks Ron and Trevor. I tried it last night, and yes it worked just fine. In fact, I had numerous image files in about 7 different folders, and I only had to relink one image and all the photos reappeared in my timeline, regardless of what folder they were in. Thanks. I am very intrigued about this Smart Package feature. I like the sounds of that function. My first few projects that I did 3 and 4 years ago, I did not copy the image files into my Project folder. As I learned more and more about VS10+ at the time, I started to copy the image files into my project folder, along with all my extra clips, special effects clips and audio clips. That way, like Ron says, it ALL stays in one place and relinking never becomes an issue. And you can quickly see all the files you have in your project, instead of scrolling down a long timeline in VS to figure it out.
And to Trevor's question, both computers are in different houses.
Thanks again,
