This is a big word of warning if you upload to youtube . it can become corrupted or lost ! Heres how:
I recently posted a thread describing how there was sometimes important differences between supposedly identical formats...Ie in my case saving as avchd is not as good as mt2s...well, heres another example of a BIG hidden trap with M2ts or whatever its called....
I made a video , saved as m2ts, uploaded it a YEAR ago and it played perfect and got 700 odd views straight away . It was 7 minutes long..I made another the same.
This week youtube lists them as 14 mins long and plays them half speed. Nothing I can do about and they are both knackered. Luckily I can find the project files (I think ) and re save them as avchd in corel and I'm 90% sure they will work.
Heres the link if you don't believe me...doesn't make for good watching especially for me. I will post the solution in avchd if and when I get it going.

There may be some formats that YouTube accepts as-is, but I think most are transcoded to their preferred format(s). So, it's not like you're simply uploading your file to your own server or to a file-sharing site. You are handing-over your file and and they take it from there and do whatever they want with it... They are in control... The users don't control the files or formats.

Hi
Interesting
Have you reported your problem to You Tube (Bug Reports & Technical Issues)?
One of your earlier posts was related to your White Tailed Eagle and Ghosting, you were experimenting with different formats for up-load.
Did you succeed in producing one that worked, if so what properties did you use to create your video.?

I don't think it's a good idea to "save" edited video's in YT. the more that YT reprocesses the video and a FullHD 1920x1080 becomes 1920x540 line doubled, thus halving the vertical resolution.
The YT problems which happened a few weeks ago, and also affected existing video's, have been discussed in length and confirmed by YT. The problem should be resolved now and I think they are reprocessing the old video's. See for further reading: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/y ... b4b5&hl=en

Re: big word of warning if you upload to youtube
Lost Videos, Pictures and other items on Internet sites is not that uncommon.
I have lost lots of stuff that over the years I shared with members of this web board.
The problem is that even though these things are "on the internet" - in fact they are on a hard drive somewhere, be it a you tube hard drive, imageshack hard drive or whatever.
Most of these sites have their back up system which are pretty good BUT like our own computers are prone to corruption.
Hard drives are susceptible to failure, bad blocks, sudden loss of electrical power, power surges and all manner of things.
You need to keep your OWN back ups of anything you decide to share on the internet so that if it does get lost or corrupted you can upload it again.

Hi
I don’t think Alex is using YouTube to archive/backup his video.
He had a problem with an existing video playing slowly and brought it to our attention.
There have been some problems with YouTube as mentioned by erdna, which may have been sorted by now.
Whether the format that Alex used to upload had a bearing on the problem is to be investigated, I assume Alex is looking into this. Saying that it does seem as though it was a YouTube problem.
