At the end of last year , I asked about 'Moving Road maps' and I got referred to a tutorial which gave me the instructions.
Time constraints did not allow me to pursue it until now.
Itried it recently with complete success but my problem is this : - I cannot find a website that will enable me to select a section and magnification of a road map AND BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD AN IMAGE FILE.
Anyone got any information ?

Re: Moving road map
Have you tried google earth? Just take a screen grab by hitting the 'print screen' button and pasting the pic in a photo editor for some cropping.
It works OK...not the best way and there's copyright problems for anything other than home use/non profit.

Hi Terry
This is one I used a while ago using the Wipe/Slide transition.
http://www.lata.me.uk/video_studio/tuto ... ap/map.htm
I’m sure there is better ways to do it nowadays.
I’ve not investigated the Google Maps as yet.
But can’t you simply use a camera to take a photo of your road map.

Re: Moving road map
Why not just scan the road map?
When you use the road map in your project, if you turn off the anti flicker in Preferences it will make the map clearer! But make sure you turn off the anti flicker befor putting the map in the timeline!
There was a long and detailed thread on the subject of road maps last year. It is well worth a read, it's here:

Re: Moving road map
Hi Terry,
I also like to use maps for travel projects, I normally just take a photo from the map. There is other DVD making software on the market that links you to a map online with all kinds of stuff like the distance of your route etc.

Re: Moving road map
Sorry to insert a slight red herring, but I'm interested in knowing how to achieve the Moving Road map effect mentioned in the first post. I've searched the forum on "Moving Road map" but it just brought me to this post only!
Could someone please point me to the original post covering this topic? Thanks!

Re: Moving road map
Not sure where that tutorial is at the moment David - but the basic procedure was to use two still images of the map side by side in the video track - the only difference being that the second map had the route drawn on it in red or similar - the two maps must be positioned in exactly the same position relative to the viewing screen.
The duration of the pictures needs to be reasonably long - now put a transition at the joint between the two pictures - I would suggest 'Side' from the 'Wipe' transition Library - set the duration of the transition to be nearly as the long as the pictures duration - and set the direction of side movement to match the general direction of your route (left to right - going down etc.)
Now run the whole project and you should see your route appear as the transition uncovers the second picture over the time you have set.
Hope that makes sense.
OR - there is another option in this tutorial here :-

Re: Moving road map
Thanks Brian! This wasn't what I thought it would be. I've used the new Paint Creator to trace out a route on a stationary map. What I had in mind was the screen view being a "window" moving over the map (or other drawing): a combination of zoom & pan (with fixed zoom). Using the VS installed pan&Zoom effect for images loses too much detail if you zoom in too much. I was hoping there had been some smart way of doing this without losing the image detail. What I was planning to use the effect for was to roam over a high resolution image of a family tree, following the various descendant lines. I suspect I might be asking too much of a modestly-priced excellent piece of software (I've been using VS since version
