Proxy files

Post by MikeA »

I am shopping around for a new video editor. I have Pinnacle Studio 12 but it is appallingly slow with my 1920x1080 HD files. The upgrade to 14 doesn't seem to sort this. I tried Cyberlink's product but it bombed repeatedly on simple tasks. Things have been much better with VideoStudio and I like a lot of what I see. It certainly has been fast, using proxy files. However, twice now the program has failed to recognize them. They are there - in the folder listed in the manager. When I bring in a clip and play it, the program starts to create a second proxy file in the designated folder (with a -1 at the end of the name). This could get tiresome -recreating proxies over and over again. In the end it reduces my enthusiasm for purchasing this product, as it is good in many ways.

Any ideas?

Hi Mike
I have noticed the same problem as you. So the best way I found is to make your own proxy files. Just down convert the files to standard deff, do your editing, when you are ready to create your final out put rename the sd folder and relink to your HD files. This was posted by another user some time ago and works quite well.
Good luck.

That sounds good. Is there a batch program to do this out there in the big wide world? Either that or a batch rename program, I suppose Otherwise it could get tedious. What format/type of file works best as a proxy?

Hi

Tools-Batch Convert will allow you to add your video files and convert to a lower format.

It may be best to investigate the problem further, off hand I cannot remember this being posted before, I may be wrong.

I just convert to standard def DVD for the proxy files. I have used this precess many times and it works well. Much better than letting VS create proxy files.
