Is VSX3 multi-threaded?

Post by UncleBoo »

Subject says it all. The reason I'm asking is that I'm toying with getting a new PC with a Core iX (3|5|7) CPU. I'm finding that at a given price point, there are two options: 1)fewer/cores/threads with higher clock speed; 2)more cores/threads with lower clock speed

So, if VXS3 is multi-threaded, that argues for option 2: rendering on four threads is going to get the job done a lot faster than one, even if each thread is relatively slow. If VXS3 is single-threaded, that argues for option 2: doesn't matter how many cores/threads you have, if only one will be used for rendering, so just get the fastest CPU you can afford, regardless of core/thread count.

I understand there are other complications (memory management, bus speed, etc.), but unless I'm mistaken, if VSX3 is single-threaded, it just boils down to clock speed.

Any advice/insights?

TIA,
UncleBoo

Corel says:
Super-charge your workflow with GPU acceleration and multi-core Intel® CPU support for faster editing and rendering.
I think core utilization depends on what you're doing. Some of the CODECS may not be multithreaded.

I'm not sure about general usage but I know rendering is.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop
