Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Hey guys, my names Luke.
I recently bought an EasyCap 2.0 to record my gaming with, it literally arrived today.
So I set it all up, I have trouble installing the driver for it each time, every time I restart my computer it says its not working correctly so I have to re-install it. Does anyone have any solutions to that?
But also, when I open VideoStudio that came with the EasyCap 2.0, it's fine. However when I click capture, I am given a varying amount of time before it encounters an error and has to close (usually between 1 and 10 seconds)
the user manual says there should be the driver 'STK1160 ATV BDA,' however the disc I was given only installs 'SMI Grabber Device'
I have viewed a couple of topics on here with similar problems and have followed the soloutions given. I.e I've uninstalled/reinstalled it numerous times, updated DirectX, set the DEP to allow VideoStudio to run.
However all with no results.
My computer is old and hasn't got very good specifications, however the system requirements for the Easycap and its editing software are lower than mine. So I don't see why that is any reason for it to close.
I have no idea what to try next?
Thank you.

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
From all the problems I've read here, I would not recommend Eazy Cap.I have viewed a couple of topics on here with similar problems...
I have no idea what to try next?
DigitalFAQ.com (advice & information about video capture hardware/software)
VideoHelp.com (advice & information about video capture hardware/software)
ATI (AMD) (Video capture device manufacturer)
Hauppauge (Video capture device manufacturer)
P.S.
I didn't know about the fakes!!!! But, I have noticed that there are several different "versions". Some are really cheap... I think I've seen it for about $5 USD. Some some come with Video Studio and some come with its own capture software.... The EZcap page that Trevor gave does NOT mention Corel or Video Studio!

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Thank you for the suggestions.
I'll try the sites you suggested first, I'll then set about trying to get a refund (Thought I doubt I'll have much luck!)
I just hope this is a solvable problem
Thanks again.

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Looking into it some more, it seems that the product I have is legit?
But I'm still unsure.
I have read other peoples reviews about this product, they all spell it the same way (EasyCap as opposed to EzCap) and all mention the VideoStudio software included with it.
In one users review it said "The software can be a little slow when changing options and clicking on the "capture" feature---just give it a minute to respond."
Which leads me to believe this is a problem with my computer, rather than the product?

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
But if you are continuing to receive messages that the device's driver/software has not been installed properly, you shouldn't be surprised that Video Studio is having trouble "seeing" the device in the first place...

I wouldnt think so, but who knows?Which leads me to believe this is a problem with my computer, rather than the product?
Does the packaging/documentation say it works with WinXP ? Does your computer have a USB-2 port? (USB-1 is too slow for video). With these USB gizomos the video compression is done in hardware. Since you're sending compressed data over the USB connection, the computer doesn't have to handle as much data and the "system requirements" are usually minimal.
I think it's the "fault" of the EazyCap manufacturer! They supplied the hardware, software, and driver. It's their responsibility to make sure all of these things work, and to make all of these things work together. (I'm not just trying to defend Corel. Video Studio is NOT perfect.)
I'm pretty sure this is a driver issue. The driver (supplied by the hardware manufacturer) is the link between the device and the operating system & application. There seems to be no Microsoft standards for video capture drivers. The driver, device, and capture software all have to be designed to work together... It gets very tricky...* Some special (SE**) versions of Video Studio have (apparently) been modified to work with a particular capture device. Then when the user upgrades to a newer version or full-version of Video Studio, the device no longer works.
Well... legit or not, it doesn't work!Looking into it some more, it seems that the product I have is legit?
According to the EzCap website, older units were shipped with Ulead*** Video Studio, but the current version ships with different software:
I've just bought an easycap and .........
We'll stop you right there. Due to piracy, the company have changed their name from easycap to ezcap™. If you have just purchased a new easycap, You have bought a fake. You get what you pay for. Below is some of the most popular "easycap" questions we are asked.
I just bought an easycap and it came with ulead video. Why does it not come with Arcsoft software?
1. You have purchased an older, obsolete version. (but it will still say ezcap on the unit)
2. You have bought a fake.
I just bought an easycap and it came with ulead video 8.0. Why does it not work on Vista / Windows 7?
You have bought a fake.
I just bought an easycap. Why does it not work on XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit?
You have bought a fake.
They all work on different codecs and chipsets. There is no point in buying a fake and downloading drivers from here hoping to resolve your problems. It won't happen. Save your money.
* It's kind-of like the old DOS days... The DOS version of Work Perfect came will a disk full of drivers for various printers. Lotus 123 came with its own drivers. If you bought a new printer you had to hope that Lotus and Word Perfect (and your other software vendors) had new drivers to work with your new printer... It was a big mess, and video capture is still a mess!
** All of the "free" SE versions are stripped-down "teaser" versions.
*** Ulead was purchased by Corel in 2006.

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Hi
Its going back a few years now but I was one of the unfortunate ones that bought a fake copy, it was cheap, so I didn’t loose that much. It came bundled with VS 10 SE. Never did get it working.
I cannot remember what driver was installed with it.
Recently I took the plunge and purchased another, do we ever learn.
Anyhow this seems to work.
It came with Arcsoft ShowBizDVD which seems to work well.
I don’t think VS10 has been bundled for quite a while??????????
It shows in Device Manager and VS 10 as USB 2861 Device
From Add and Remove programs shows as USB TV Device Driver.

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Thank you to everyone who responded, particularly DVDDoug
Every time I install the drivers, they seem to be not working properly when I check, so I believe you are right about the drivers. I recently got the blue screen while trying to figure out how to fix it, could that tell me something?
I bought this product off of ebay, so the documentation and packaging was literally a cd in a case and an instruction guide.
I'm pretty certain I have bought a fake, the user guide seems to have been made by someone else. It consists of fuzzy screen shots, no legit company is mentioned and it contains several grammar and punctuation mistakes. Oh the joys of ebay.
Thanks Trevor, where did you buy your first one? And where did you buy the second one? Also, how much was each one?
I'd like to buy another one and get this working, but I'd rather my computer not break.
Thank you!

Re: Cannot capture with VideoStudio
Hi Xirse
It was a while ago when I purchased the first, like you from E-Bay, somewhere in China should have given me a clue. It was about £7 in total.
The new working model came from http://www.ezcap.tv/index.html at £22 + P&P
Iv'e just completed a few test capture and it seems to work ok.
Depending on what program i use changes the capture options, VS10 was the most troublesome but captured ok when the settings were correct. (although i am running that on Vista not realy suitable for VS10) X2/X3 had no problem and recognised the device straight away giving me a choice of standard templates to capture with.
Certainly the software that came with the device seemed easy to use, again capturing to DVD Mpeg 2.
Before purchasing this device i only had the Passthrough option of my camera to transfer VHS to the pc, which i must admit worked very well.
Hope this Helps
