Ok .. hopefully this is just a simple thing I missed in the documentation, and someone can tell me right off the bat ....
How do you vary the fade-in rate of an image which you have clicked the fade-in attribute on ... I want it to be a lot faster in some cases, but since it isn't a filter, I can't see how to customize it...
Am I missing the obvious?
thx

Re: vary the fade-in speed
Hi Sheldon
No I don't think you are missing the obvious. there does not appear to be a way to customise the fade in and out of images. I can't even see a way to edit the default but this would be no good for you anyway.
I have worked out a workaround which is not too lengthy, I hope.
I assume you are putting the images into the overlay track?
First drag a color to the o/l track. I would suggest red or any color other than black. Then drag another same color alongside the first leaving a gap. Make both color boxes "Fill the Screen". OK I know the color boxes blank out the video in the background so click on each color box in turn and click Options > Mask and Chroma Key and set the transparency to 99%. Then drag your first image to the gap between the color boxes. Drag the image to the duration you want. Set the size of the image, fill screen if that's what you want or adjust with handles. Fix the position within the preview screen if the image is not full screen. If you generally select any transitions you use individually then go to Settings (x3) File > Preferences (x2) and set the default transition to FX Cross fade. Or just drag the crossfade transition into position .
Now just drag your image to the left to overlap the left hand color box and adjust to the length of Fade In that you want. Then drag the right hand color box to the left to get the Fade out duration you want.
Then if you hold down Shift and click on each color box and image to select them all you can copy and paste this "block" to the position of the next image and just swop the old image for the new one and adjust your fade in and out to suit by dragging.
In the second and subsequent image if you right click on just the imege you can choose to "Replace the image" This will save a fair bit of time. Suggest you load all your images into the library before you start.
Hope this might solve you problem!
EDIT
Just to add. The reason I uggest you make the color boxes fill the screen is that saves the problem that if you leave the color box at the defaut size and position, if you dont have the image either smaller or exacly the same siz and in the same relative position you gat strange looking "bits" of the image appearing before the rest. Difficult to explain what I mean but just try a color box at the default size and an image at full screen and you will see what I mean. Only shows when you make the color boxes tranparent.

I assume you are referring to the overlay track.
Select the image, set fades……
The blue bar below the preview screen is muti-functional. (Pause duration.)
In this mode it will adjust the fade – in fade out.
The blue section being the full view,
Drag the trim bars to adjust the length.

Actually I wrote that long explanation out just in case Trevors solution didn't work
Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
