Has anyone compiled a set of Windows 7 tweaks for video editing optimization? Or is Windows 7 optimization the same as every other Windows platform before it? I know Corel/ULEAD still recommend 1) enabling DMA of the IDE drives (make sure you download the latest Microsoft ADMA patch first) 2) disabling write caching on the hard drive and 3) setting the minimum and maximun values of the Page File to twice the amount of RAM you have on your computer. I've always heard the Min. value should be 2x of RAM and the Max. value should be 3x of RAM. I've also read that Indexing should be disabled.
Are all these tweaks still necesary in Windows 7 Home premium (64 bit) on a computer that has a 6-core 2.8GHz processor, a 1TB SATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM and 3.0 Gb/sec.) and 6 GB of DDR3 SDRAM at 1333 MHz? My Page File's minimum and maximum values need to be 12GB each?
If disabling write caching is still recommended, is it recommended to disable it only when one is capturing video, and then restore it back to "Enabled" when done capturing? Or do you leave it "Disabled" all the time? What's the purpose behind disabling "write caching"? Everything I've read on-line about this says "enabling" write cachng increases hard drive performance and the only reason to disable it, is if you are going to be removing the device frequently. Does "Disabling" write caching have any negative effects of any other computer applications ( other software, internet usage, spreadsheets, internet downloading, etc.)?
Any others tweaks for Windows 7?
Thanks,

Re: Windows 7 Tweaks for Video Editing?
I've not tweaked windows for video editing for a long time. I believe I stopped doing so right around the time I stopped capturing analog video through a capture card. Outside of making sure windows update, virus scans, etc don't start in the middle of your work, I honestly don't think much is needed if you have half decent hardware. I do regular web surfing, email, etc while rendering video and burning projects without issue. Looking at your hardware profile I don't imagine you will have any issues either.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop
