No Cursor in Screen Cap

Post by Jim Hardin »

Using PSP X3 on an Win7 Home Premium system with an ATI HD 5700 Series card.

My Version is 13.2.0.35 and video card driver/software was updated 2 days ago.

I tried a search here and went back 5 pages but did not see other posts regarding this.

I do a lot of screen captures but I have not been able to get X3 to include the Cursor in the capture!!!

I have tried it in Full Screen, Client area, and Window but it never shows up…

I have even un-checked it (Include Cursor) and re-checked it to make sure it was set…

Please let me point out that I am not interested in using any other capture program just to make up for a problem in this one.

It works ok for me.
I also tested using your setup and = OK.

After Your setup I also selected (clicked the) "capture now" button.
I found the image in a folder of mine.
Pressed, F10
and the image with cursor came up in PSP Ok.
I saved it as a jpg to post here.

This is the test screenshot:

Of note, both of you are using Nvdia cards…

Wonder if it could be an ATI fluke???

marty2010: nice choice for a screen cap! Defiantly a place to maintain your focus! :D

Sorry, it's no ATI issue. My screenshot was made with ATI HD3400 ...

Well, I did a test on another Win7 PC that has a Nvdia card and it works…

Kinda points to the card, but I will have to swap cards and see what happens…

Simone: thank you for trying, but your test would have more validity if you have a 5700 series card rather than the 3000…

I had the same thought about Simone's test, Jim, but to be fair your statement mentioned only the ATI vs NVidia fluke not the specific card type. And it's to that that Simone was responding. I too have an ATI card and can capture the mouse but didn't say anything because I assumed it was possible there is something about the 5700 that was different enough to cause this problem.

However, before we could call it an ATI fluke specifically can any other screen capture programs capture the mouse? I know you said you have no intention of using others and that's fine but to narrow it down more than just PSP would have to be used to give the tests validity don't you think? Heck does the Print Screen option on the keyboard work?

This has proven interesting…

I swapped out my Nivdia Card to this PC and still No Cursor!!!

I finally found that with the mouse Pointer Scheme set to Windows Standard Large, the Cursor would be captured:

None of the Windows Aero seem to allow it to be captured???

I can grab my Screen Cap, w/Cursor now so I am happy :) Perhaps another user can try this and confirm my results?

Edit: Nuts, I cannot even confirm my results :o I put the Nivdia card back into the other PC and checked its' Mouse Pointer Scheme to be set to 'Aero' yet it works... Something in this PC causes it to behave differently. I have my Workaround so I will not be spending my time looking for another 'fix'.

Jim, that was my thought at first: looking into the Windows settings. There were some problems with PIX3 and Vista, when the IE's security settings didn't allow to capture the screen.
It's not necessary to check it again, if PSP captures the pointer with a different Windows setting.
And yes, I have only a 3400er card ...

Thank you Simone.

The workaround will do but I wish I had the time to tinker some more with it. Not going to happen though!

Hello,

When I make a capture with PSP X3, I can only capture cursors defined in Windows theme, but not cursors integrated in our application (CATIA).
I did not encounter this problem with Snagit (TechSmith) or Screenshoter (InspireSoft) on the same computer, and except in PSP Capture Setup there is no other setting about cursor.
Any idea?
