I have installed VS X2 and updated it with SP 1. I also updated DirectX. Hwever, it did not recognize my Canon Elura 85 mini DV camcorder. Then I closed VS X2 and run my old VS 10. This VS 10 recognized the Canon Elura 85 directly. So there is no connection problem between the camcorder and the computer.
I checked the Preference and Project Properties of the VS X2 and the settings are the same as on the VS 10.
What did I do wrong with the VS X2 or I need to configure it differently?
Hope any of you can help me. Thanks.

Re: VS X2 not recognizing camcorder
The Preferences settings on the Capture tab of both versions are almost identical. VS 10 has the option allow access to device capture settings, VS 12 does not. That shouldn't affect the program seeing your camcorder though. I don't know so I must ask... Does the Canon Elura have Pass-through capabilities? If so are you using it to capture VHS (analog) tapes? Even with that VS 12 should see and allow you to start capturing, but kills it at about 8 secs into the capture.
I'm going to make a couple of assumptions here, since they're identical in both versions, and that is getting into the actual capture steps. So when you click on the Capture Video button in VS 12, which then causes the Capture Panel to slide up, looking like this.. Then at the bottom the Information panel should be populated.. Check on the Device Control found under the Tools menu.. Check the Options button for the Device Control.. Also the Capture Plug-in.. Then of course while you have VS 12 open, check the Windows Explorer>My Computer to see that your Camcorder is showing there.. Try having your camcorder turned on, in VCR playback mode, then launching VS 12 to see if it recognizes it. If not try the reverse, launch VS 12, then turn on your camcorder to VCR playback mode.
You do have the Service Packs installed for VS 12? If not download and install them..

If all the above fails, the only other thing I can think of is to do a complete re-install of the program.

Re: VS X2 not recognizing camcorder
Thanks Ron for the detailed steps. I really appreciate it. When I click "Capture Video", the next screen has the "Source" and "Format" blank. Thus, the "Information Panel" is dimmed (no information). As I wrote in the original post, after closing VS12 and then running VS 10, clicking "Capture Video" immediately showed the Source as "Canon .." and the Format as "DV".Ron P. wrote:The Preferences settings on the Capture tab of both versions are almost identical. The Elura has pass-through capabilities. However, The last time I used the Elura's Pass Through capabilities was about 3 years ago. I used the Elura to record my vacation just in July 3 weeks ago. Also, my VS10 was able to detect the Elura, as I indicated before.
I did these 2 steps: (1) camcorder on then VS12 and (2) VS12 first then camcorder on; both with camcorder in Playback mode. Still VS12 could not populate the Source: window. Yes, my VS12 has Service Pack 1. And DirectX with the 06/2010 update.Ron P. wrote:Try having your camcorder turned on, in VCR playback mode, then launching VS 12 to see if it recognizes it. Other than not recognizing the camcorder, VS12 is able to do all the other features. So, since everything is fine with VS10, I still believe that it lies in my VS 12.

Re: VS X2 not recognizing camcorder
Since you have VS10 why not capture with that and edit with X2? That is what I do. Not because my cam is not recognized, but because with X2, and now with X3, there is a second or two lag from the time I click the record button until the program actually records the video. Makes it very difficult to capture my scenes. My VS10 responds immediately. Don't know why. Can't figure it out. No sense wasting more time on it when I can capture with VS10 and edit with X3.

I just uninstalled VS12 and did a complete re-install of the VS 12 program. This time, it did detect the Canon Elura and I was able to capture the video.
Somehow, there must be a glitch during the first time installation.
Again, thank you very much.

Re: VS X2 not recognizing camcorder
Black Lab, I appreciate your advice. I would do the way you adviced but after uninstalling and clean re-installation, my VS 12 now does detect the camcorder and I am able to capture the video.Black Lab wrote:Since you have VS10 why not capture with that and edit with X2?
