I have a large photo collection and the folders are listed by year-month-day. Organiser lists the folders starting from the oldest at the top of the directory list and it takes forever to scroll down to the most recent folders at the bottom of the directory list. Is there any way to get X3 to re-list the folders with the lasted at the top of the directory list??
Currently:
My Pictures: (at the top of the directory)
2000-01-01
2001-02-01
and so on with
2010-07-01 at the bottom.
Appreciate any suggestions for flipping te directory so the most recent folders are showing at the top.
Thanks
Umm....marty, that sorts the images in the strip view. But, unless Sergio didn't meant to, Sergio asked about changing the display order of the folders in the tree view so that he wouldn't have to scroll to the bottom to get the most recent folders.
Sergio, I don't think folder sorting is available. The organizer is focused more on organizing the photos than anything else. Love or it hate it, that's how it is.
You might be able to decrease the amount of scrolling you have to do by further organizing your folders. Right now you have folders with day, month, and year numbers as their labels. Create "year" folders and place your current folders from certain years into those. So you'll only be looking at the most recent year when you browse through them. It's not much, but it's something.
You can also use smart collections, or access specific dates using the calendar. These will speedup searching through your photos but they won't do the sorting you want and have already set-up inside the windows explorer.
Thank you for your suggestion of grouping by years to shorten down the scrolling time, - that's a good idea and will go someway towards alleviating the problem- Sergio
LeviFiction has a good Idea, to narrow them down to Years tabs
Another way would be to remove many of the older folders on the tree list in the Collections Tab that you don't go to any more by
simply right clicking the folders and choosing 'remove from list' in the resulting drop down menu. Should you desire you can always add the folders back to the list again at a later date by using the 'browse more folders button(tab)'
A good way to keep track of your files is to catalogue them with keywords so you can always do a search to find any pics you wish to view or work on
X3 actually is a pretty good DAM (digital asset management), file management program in that regard, as it provides a number of different ways to tag you pics for later retrieval.
