video help please
So I downloaded the 30 day demo of Corel Videostudio Express. It recognized my videos, but when I went to play them they were very broken up and would not play smoothly. I looked around for any settings but couldn't find any. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I hate to post such a simplistic question...but I am clueless in this area. Thanks everyone!

Re: video help please
Welcome to the Forums!
But I am afraid no one is going to be able to help you without more information. Video Studio might be able to recognise your video format, but we can't since we have no idea of what it is or where it came from. If, for instance, it is AVCHD video, then your computer might just not be powerful enough to play it smoothly.
So can you please right click on one of your video clips, either when it is in the VS timeline or in the library window, and copy ALL its Properties here. Can you also describe your camcorder for us -- brand and model -- if the video came from one, or what other devices were involved, how your captured the video and such. Also, have you done any editing to the video? If so, what did you do?

Hi
You will be best to download the trial version of Video Studio X3 rather than Corel Videostudio Express..........

Now that I downloaded the pro x3, I see the properties you were referring to. So please see the attachment. The video is still showing up choppy. Thanks for your help

Re: video help please
Your PC is on the light side for playing or editing high-def videos. Project preview/playback has always been rough. If this occurs on your finished product (DVD or just a video file for the internet), then there may be some other issue..

Re: video help please
Ok. So you are saying that the final product might still end up fine? Also, I noticed that when I had the express demo product installed, it recognized all my videos, but now that I have the pro x3, it doesn't show any are in my videos file. Have any idea why? Thanks for your time.

Re: video help please
Hi
Interesting cos I own a Canon D7 that produces the same video format, although I use the Pal format of 25 frames / second
Notice that the Compression: name is missing, it should read H264/avc
I don’t know why VS doesn’t read this file correctly, but there are so many types and variations out there that it would be a miracle if it could read all formats.
Your best option maybe to batch convert the original videos to maybe Dv-Avi.
This is a format that VS likes, one of the original video formats. It is 13Gb per hour.
Then use the Dv-Avi to edit—when complete
Render to Mpeg2-DVD to burn a disc or upload to YouTube.
File---Batch Convert……………
Add videos
Choose Save Type as – Microsoft (avi)
Options button
AVI Compression to Dv Video Encoder type 1
General tab to:-
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Frame Based (I think this may be best as the originals are frame based)
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- NTSC, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
May take a while with your pc,
Use the new Avi in the timeline to edit

Yes --- but you don’t say what that is, are you intending to make a DVD?Ok. So you are saying that the final product might still end up fine?

Re: video help please
Hey Trevor,
Thanks for the help. I did find my files. And yes, I am just wanting to put them on DVD for records. Even after converting to AVI it still appears choppy. Is this the case for you? Thanks.

Re: video help please
Hi
I have viewed my converted files on my pc’s media players, they look ok.
At least as sharp, although the colour saturation does look a little weaker????????
When you say they still appear choppy, is there any improvement to playing the Mov types.
We still don’t know if we are looking at a poor video or the PC is just not up to the job of video editing,
As Ron said “Project preview/playback has always been rough.”
Not always representative of the final video, It may be best if you view the system requirements for running X3.
Other formats………
You could try to convert them to DVD Mpeg2 format, that’s the format that you need to burn a DVD.

Re: video help please
My PC is a little under-powered, too, and what i discovered is that if you make even moderate changes to your video (such as color correction) the editor's playback is choppy because the CPU just doesn't have the horsepower to play the edited video in real time. But it should still render fine when it comes time to generate your output file.
I don't think there's anything you can do for this except use it as an excuse to buy a new PC!
