PS Color Range selection
is there a comparable feature within PSPX3 that selects like the "Color Range" in PhotoShop? i'd become quite used to using this method in the PS i had. this was version 5 (yeah, i know.) what you Could do was select a single pixel (depending on the "Fuzziness") with the color picker tool in an addition mode, subtraction mode and it'd show you an on image preview of your selection (Quick Mask). brilliant! anything like that with PSPX3?

Yes...sort of.
I don't know how comparable the feature is. But there is a selection modifier called Select Color Range that acts in a similar fashion.
You can either add to or subtract from a current selection you can't start a selection with it. So, for example, I hit Ctrl + A to do a full image selection. Then go to the selections menu and go to Modify->Color Range. So I would subtract colors from the color range rather than add to them in order to get my selection.
Then you can manually select any color by clicking on the color box, clicking mouse over the actual image (not the preview) and selecting from there.
Photoshop allows you to add and subtract lots of colors by clicking and dragging over the preview image. Paint Shop Pro only allows it one color at a time. So if you wanted to select multiple colors you would have to perform this modification multiple times. It does have a tolerance and softness setting though to select more than just the exact color selected.

I can't use this command effectively myself, so when I do use it I also end up going into the selection edit mode to fill in or remove any holes that have appeared as a result of this command.

Re: PS Color Range selection
Do you mean something like Selections modify select smilier or select colour range Tolerance would be the equivalent of fuzziness in psp and Quick mask you would use selections edit which you toggle on and off when on any tool filter brush that will work in grayscale is usable

Re: PS Color Range selection
PS's thingy allows for a single "color pick" selection which can be used multiple times anywhere in the image to add that pixel chosen/picked to the selection. it's sorta like the magic wand (which i'll probably have to use here in PSPX3 i guess). oh well....

Re: PS Color Range selection
Yes But. Once you have a selection of any type you can modify it. So then use select colour range and you can add a colour or remove a colour from the selection and keep doing so until every colour is selected if you want. if you hold the cursor over the colour swatch in the dialogue it changes to the dropper. Hold down the ctrl key and you can then move it to anywhere in the image to sample Even to a web page if its open Just left click to sample that colour
