Error: 38 ???

Post by metmot »

Hey guys I went to open vsx3 today and no go. Can't seem to find any documentation on this situation. Tried searching but no luck, too many results to sort through. Here's a picture of the error message and also the pitiful search engine results from this software. If I use less words to search it says it's too vague. Add one word and you get what's shown.

Can anyone direct me to an answer to what this error code means exactly and how I might proceed? I hate to just uninstall and reinstall arbitrarily,
especially since it probably won't help.

Welcome back...:)

No need to reinstall, this is a common error that is thrown when Corel's anti-piracy service is not running. It is called Protexis Licensing. Go to your Computer Management, Service and Applications, Services. Then scroll down, find Protexis Licensing, or if you may have it installed more than once, in which case it might be Protexis Licensing V2. Check to make sure it is started and running. If not start it. This service must be running for some of Corel's latest versions to launch..

Hey Ron thanks!!

Summer is for shooting media and winter for editing it right? Hope yours is going well.

I restored Protexis service to automatic running status and bingo. Am not sure how it got shut down. Is there something I missed up top of this forum in the stickies or announcements explaining this? (Actually I think I knew this at one time once you reminded me but forgot :( ) If not maybe there should be since 1.2k search results is a lot to sort through for some future poor sucker who accidentally kills that service.

Don't think there is yet..

Yes the search engine just downright stinks. Nothing we can really do about it though..:(
