Change time line of all clips

Post by fallenc »

Hi,
In VS Express it "imports" the clips in the wrong time order, newest first, I want oldes first. When I have 30+ clips it is time consuming moving them all manually, is there a way I can mark all clips and "reverse" the order? Or is there a setting so it pics the oldest first?
Best,
Chris

In VS Express it "imports"
Do you mean the Express Edit of VS X3 Pro or the stand-alone program of VS Express 2010?

Irregardless, it uses a Media Cataloger, which it opens to by default. If you'll notice in the upper left, there are 3 buttons, Names, Dates, Rating. These are sort buttons. Then along the left side there is the Library, which you can choose to show All Media, Videos, Photos or Music. There are no other options that I'm aware of.

When it is "importing" it is just placing thumbnails in the Organizer. You can then select them from the Organizer and place them in the timeline, using any order you desire. I think here the key would be selecting them in the order you want from the Organizer before dragging them to the timeline. You do know that you can click on the check-mark in the upper-right corner of the thumbnails to add it to the timeline, and double-clicking does the same thing. Once in the timeline, you will need to manually re-arrange them.

Hi Chris

I’m assuming you mean importing to Video Studio timeline/library???????

Using Windows Explorer you can view the folder in ‘Detail View’
The folder is shown in columns with names at the top.
Clicking the ‘Name’ will rearrange the files in name order.
You can add other columns by right clicking the top bar and selecting from a list, Date Modified may help.

To insert files, select and drag and drop into the timeline or library.

Or

Using Video Studio.
Right click timeline and select insert Video / Photo
A Browse Window opens, here you can change the folder view to Details in a similar manner as above.
Rearrange the order, select the clips, Press Open
This opens a further window “Change Clip Sequence”
View the list --- are they in order?
Click the words Clip File Name to change the order.

Hi,

I mean Easy Edit VS Express in VX3. I mark all the files in one folder that I want and in the "folder view" the oldest is first but when I go to create the order of the clips are newest first and I need to manually move them arround?

Hi Chris

Video Studio X3 came with the Video Studio Express2010 and Factory Pro 2010 as the authoring software to support X3, but the program is not that good so much so that Corel provided an alternative in Movie Factory 7 to burn the DVD.

I must admit I have not tried Express 2010.

I would advise that you try the Advanced Edit, don’t be put off by the word ‘Advanced’, it’s a video editor similar in format to most others and most if not all forum members use this program.

Once you have opened the Editor—right click the timeline and select insert Video, or maybe your using images, then insert photos, its during this insert option that you will be able to sort your clips into order.

Sorry I cannot advise on the Express 2010……………
