VS11 plus & .MTS newbie!

I finally learnt VS10 and was fully up to speed with my mod files but after purchasing a new camera it has .MTS files - I have upgraded to 11plus but it only sees the files if I change them to .MPG but then playback is all jittery in the clip scene - what am I doing wrong?

First of all, please the the PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING!!! thread at the top of this forum and fill in the specs about your pc. I suspect it is not powerful enough.
