Saving zoomed images in Paint Shop Pro

I enlarge an image using "zoom in". But when I view the image after saving it, All I get is the original image. Also the saved version is much smaller size than the original. 782 KB as compared to 2.05 MB in the original.
How do I save the enlarged image and why the size difference?

The only way I know is to open up PSPro a second time then do a screen capture of the zoomed image.................Ken

Stephen, zooming in refers only to the view of the image. It's like taking a magnifying glass to an image. It doesn't actually change the image itself, only how closely you're looking at it.

Can you tell us what it is you're trying to do?

If you wanted to actually increase the size of the image you would have to go to the image menu and select resize from there. However, it's recommended that you don't upscale an image because it tends to make the image fuzzier.

As for the file size, there's a difference between file size and image size. The image size is how many pixels wide and high the image is. Filesize refers to how much information it takes to make up that image. JPEG compresses the image, throwing away pixels it doesn't feel are needed, to make the file smaller. If the filesize is different it might have to do with the JPEG compression level.

When you go to save a copy of the image make sure to run the optimizer. Go to File->Export->JPG Optimizer. And check the settings. If it's set to a smaller size then that's why. ;D

I am making a slide show and some of the pictures need to be bigger. On some of them cropping the picture seems to work but on others it isn't enough enlargement. I tried resizing with unsatisfactory results, cropping and resizing the cropped image didn't work well either.

Stephen may consider a screen capture highly impractal but it is only a few mouse clicks away and takes seconds to do.I would be very interested to
know if there is any other way of capturing a zoomed image.

Stephen, resizing to make it larger will always lead to unsatisfactory results. You cannot resize an image larger without distorting it, the pixels needed just don't exist and PSP has to guess at what the new pixels it has to create should look like.

However, I'm curious about which software you're using to do this slide-show. Most programs I'm aware of allow you to zoom in on an image in the slideshow so there's no need to crop and distort an image to zoom in on the location.

There is when you want to crop to just a tiny bird taken on a 28mm lens from 50 yards and want a HD slide show. I tend to resize down for sideshow and web using a script to get a PAL size of 720 by 528 pixels. suits both
