Can't create flv file X2

Post by boatscribe »

My VideoStudio X2 program keeps shutting down everytime I try to create a flv file (every setting). I reinstalled the program (repair) but it's still doing it. I can create everyother type of video file except this one. The error code I get is, "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working" then "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windowns will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Any ideas?

As a work-around, you can save in a different format (maybe DV/AVI or MPEG-2, depending on the original format) and then convert to FLV with a 3rd-party program.

For "problem formats", I usually convert with SUPER (FREE!!!). I've never worked with FLV files, but SUPER can convert to/from FLV.

Thanks for the reply Doug. I did a little research on Super and the reviews are a little worrisome. Some say it introduces malware or at least creates the opportunity. I've heard it will connect to the internet every time you run it....all of which concerns me.

Hi Boatscribe
Can you give us the properties of your source file please togther with where they come from and the method you use to import/capture to your PC?. With the file in the VS x2 timeline, right click on the clip and click "Properties" then post all the file details here. I use FLV files a lot and have not had a problem with x2 crashing!

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 9100 kbps)
Audio data rate: 448 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Camera is a Sony SR-100 (with a built in hard drive)
I capture it using the Import from Mobile Device Sony HD

The weird thing is that I can do it on my laptop (painfully slower though). Would it matter if I have Windows 7? My laptop has Vista.

Well everything looks fine to me, the source files are good and I use Windows 7 64bit and have no trouble. Is this happening on just one clip or have you tried others?

Hi

Out of interest, when you say VS closes down, does the flash file get created successfully, or is the flash file not made, incomplete/corrupt?

Not sure if this is relevant to your problem but there have been issues with flash in the past.

Have you Manually updated Direct X? there is a link on a post at the top of this forum.

Are you using the latest version of Flash?

If I feel I have to reinstall the program I always use a Clean Install. I have never found the Repair Option to help cure any problems.

After installing did you apply the appropriate patches?

Is this the only time that VS closes/freezes, shuts down?

Thanks for the post Trevor,
When I try to render it, it looks like it wants to start and the progress bar comes up, but then the aforementioned error message comes up and the program closes. I've tried it with different files with no luck. When you do a total reinstall do you lose your saved files? This is the only time the program closes.
I tried the June 2010 update of Direct X but it had no effect.

Hi Alan

When you uninstall video studio not all files are removed, a clean install manually deletes these leftover files. This gives details.

I save all my video clips and project files on a different drive than C: drive.
So anything I remove from C is not going to affect my work.

Have you updated X2 with the patches

Are you using the latest version of Flash Player

Thanks a lot Trevor!
Either loading the new X2 patches or installing the latest Flash Player did it.
