Can not render custom H.264 ?

Post by EllieW »

Hello....

I am new to VideoStudio Pro X3 - I have created some simple videos using my webcam - brought them into VSP and edited and saved.
These are short clips 4 - 8 minutes long

When I try to create video file - custom - mpg4 - 640x480 - Compression H.264 Main (also tried H.264 BASELINE) VSP crashes
""This program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning.
Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis""

I can render in any other format?? I am hosting at Amazon S3 and have been told the best codecs to use is the H.264 & AAC

Any advice is appreciated....

Thanks

Hi EllieW and welcome.
We do need a lot more detail on this to be able to help you. Please look at this thread at the top of this Forum and give as much detail as possible especially the source file properties and exactly what you want to do with your finished file!

I am very new to doing this - not really understanding the whole process - I hope I have given you the info you need.....

Created several short videos with a Logitech webcam -- wmv file
Brought those into VSP version 13.6.2.21
The only editing that I did was to cut some pieces of the clips and to add a graphic with Title and a transition...
Saved as a VSP file

I am hosting these on Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3) - I was told to render them as a H.264 , AAC audio

Project Properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I open vsp project go to Share - Create Video File - Custom -
Save As Type: MPEG-4
Options -
Corel Video Studio Tab - I leave the boxes checked (Entire Project / Play file / Perform SmartRender / Perform nonsquare
General Tab - The only thing I change in here is the frame size to 640x480
Compression Tab - Video settings - I pick H.264 MAIN - also tried BASELINE

Tell it to save - it start to create a file and then I get the error message
""This program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning.
Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis""

And the program shuts down....

I tried other vsp files as I have 3 I am working on - each did the same thing - I unistalled VSP and then installed again... same problem
Finally I thought to try to create as a different file - sure enough I can create these as FLV or MP4 -- It seems to me I just can't use the
H.264 ??

Hope this is the info you need...

Thanks

Try unchecking the SmartRender function and see what happens.

I just tried this suggestion -- made no difference - it starts to create file and then I get the error and
the program closes....

Hi

You say your original files are WMV
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

Your not gonna get better than the original quality.

Check what version of QuickTime you have installed, if you have version 7.6.6 then you will need to remove Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update and also QuickTime 7.6.6.

Once you have 7.6.6 removed then you will need to download and install QuickTime 7.6 (Here is the Link: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL762)

THIS WORKED!! I did have 7.6.6 -- I uninstalled (did not yet install 7.6) instead I went straight to VSP and was able to create using H.264!

Big Thanks!! :D
