Will Ulead 9 work for me?

Post by geerts »

I have a Sony Handycam DVD-100. I have downloaded the trial version of Ulead version 9 and while doing some experimenting the preview video is VERY choppy.
I guess my question is....will this software work for me or do I need to find something else?
Also, when I capture the video, should I get it directly from the burned DVD that is in the PC, or should I connect the camcorder to the computer and try to capture it that way? I alreday have the video files on my computer and they are in MGEP2 format. Could I just import each video file that way too? I am just SOOOO confused. Please help!!!

Hi.

I think you're only confused because it's so simple. "It CAN'T be that easy" sort of thing.

You put the "exposed" DVD into your DVD tray (make sure it's seated inside the smaller ring) and then, in Ulead, go to File > Import media into Timeline and select DVD.

I did this just last night and noticed that it gave me a hassle until I'd gone to File > Preferences and selected (or created) folders on my hard drive in the "General" and "Preview" tab.

I discovered that Ulead then presented me with a list of the scenes on the DVD, and I was able to import only the three I needed. But I could have selected them all.

Of course they will be in .MPEG2 format. Experienced forum participant jchunter has done extensive testing and reports that repeated editings and renderings of .MPEG2 video do NOT result in noticeable quality loss.

Come back and ask more questions when you get successfully to that stage.

Just import the video files from the HandiCam. Chances are that the camcorder will not be recognized as a capture device. Just bring in your videos from the hard drive or from the DVD disk that is made from the camera. You would then be able to edit your videos and make new video files and burn then to disks.

I've tried Sony Vegas trial version and have bought Adobe Premiere Elements... Ulead VS is, in my humble opinion, the easiest to use. Get it, is my recommendation... the latest version, of course.
