Post by Firedshot »

Ok i'll get tthe system info down first

Make: ALIENWARE
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit Ultima
Motherboard: Foxconn C51XEM2AA
Graphic Card: NVIDIA 7950GX2 1GB
Sound Card: REALTEK HD AUDIO DEVICE
Processor: AMD ATHLON DUAL CORE 6400+ BLACK EDITION
Hard Disk Drive: 250GB SAMSUNG

Right click one of the clips in the timeline and select properties what are they?

Where did you get the video from?
downloaded from internet?
From a camera?
If yes how did you connect the camera?

The more info the better

In addition to Trevor's comments, when I said "supply the requested info, most especially what kind of clips you are using" I didn't say to JUST tell us what kinds of clips you are using. All the information that is requested in that thread is important. That's why we ask for it.

Hi

Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy.
The proxy files are smaller versions of the originals, hopefully allowing the editing process to be smoother.
I think the option is turned off by default.

From Settings – Enable Smart Proxy

New clips inserted to the timeline should have proxy files automatically created.
Clips already in timeline/library need activating manually, right click clip and select ‘create smart proxy’

Be patient it takes a little time to create the files.
View files in Proxy Manager and or Queue Manager
A small icon can be seen on the thumbnail indicating proxy file.

Hope this helps

VideoStudio Pro X3 uses the GPU for a lot of things now, rendering, filters and effects. Make sure that you have the latest video card drivers is key for top performance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Nvidia GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, and 400-series desktop GPUs Drivers:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version: 258.96 WHQL
Release Date: 2010.07.19
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit
Language: English (U.S.)
File Size: 122 MB
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also where your project files are stored can also effect the performance of VideoStudio, the faster the data rate the better the performance. Always store your project files on an internal drive opposed to external or network drive. The best setup would be a RAID setup where the data is stripped, keep in mind depending on the RAID setup you choose there can be risks involved. Having a faster drive will help 7,200 RPM or higher would be recommended.

If you like to store you project files on an external source I recommend using the Smart Package feature for saving them. Smart Package collects all the files you use in a project and copies them to a single folder and creates a VSP file, you can then transfer this to any system with a compatible version of VideoStudio and pickup right where you left off. You can access Smart Package by Clicking File and then selecting Smart Package.

Check to see how many processes you have running in the background when using VideoStudio, launch the Windows Task Manager and at the bottom left you will see Processes. A good number is around 50, anything higher you might want to look into customizing your start-up settings using MSCONFIG.

And as posted before me, Smart Proxy is a very good tool.

I hope this info helps

I think considering the processor you're using and that you're working with hi-def video files, you will find things running slow. I've read where the 6400+ Black is slower then Intel's Core-2 Duo, and those are considered about the bottom end for editing high-def video.

The box says that the minimum for AMD is a dual core no less than 2.0Ghz and mine is a 3.2Ghz?

That is the minimum, geared toward working with files that require the minimum (DV-AVI). You are working with HD, which requires more horsepower.
