WINDVD ERROR- NOT A VALID HP PSGN SYSTEM

Post by byte_dr »

I just purchased a new HP PAvilion Elite desk top and added an HP blueray writer to it. It came with Intervideo WINDVD. I believe it is WINDVD 8 because when I open the CD files I see WINBD8 and WINSD8 as two of the files. When I attempt to load the software I get and error of "This is not a valid HP PSGN system. Setup will abort." I have talked to HP attempting to find out what this error message means and how to correct the problem. HP has provided poor results. Please help.

Best Regards,

I doubt very much whether any version older than the current WinDVD 2010 is compatible with Windows 7...

Thank you Ken. Your reply makes sense but I am surprised that this software was included in the HP Blueray writer. Do you know what the error means?

I'm afraid I have no idea what exactly that message means -- can't even take a stab at what 'PSGN' might indicate...

However, it is not particularly surprising that you have an older program included with the Blu-Ray writer as it may work with Vista and/or XP and a lot of people out there still use those operating systems... Mind you, it was only WinDVD 9 Plus BD which included Blu-Ray playback for the first time, if I am not mistaken.

The disc is an OEM copy of WinDVD, meaning it is not the full retail version. When installing the OEM version WinDVD will check for the hardware that it was made to be bundled with, if it does not detect the correct hardware then it will not install and give the exact error message.

I have a Pioneer drive and received the same sort of error, a firmware update fixed it.

Your issue could be firmware or there is a digital tattoo on the drive it self and it could be miss labled. Also WinDVD 8 is not compatible with Windows 7 but maybe HP had them build a special version, you would need to contact HP for that info. Last thing maybe, the wrong disc was placed in the box. This is an issue you would need to contact HP for (1-800-HPINVENT)
