Hi Mark

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, Video Studio uses overlay tracks which are used to create Picture in Picture
A little more info would be useful, like what version of VS are you using.?

There is a post at the top of the forum giving an idea of the type of info required.

There is also a NewBlu PiP video filter in X3 that allows more advanced PiP effects.

Very well and professionally done!! You might want to consider, however, varying the PinP effect -- too many of the same effect in rapid succession can get a bit borning (well that's just my opinion, anyway). But congratulations -- you clearly understand how it works!!

Excellent start!! :)

To add excitement you might make it faster, maybe have one zoom-in.. just a couple of ideas for you....

Reloading center-fire cartridges, marksmanship, target-shooting great hobbies. I didn't know that the UK still allowed this, after they took away your guns.. :? The project I've been working on has an inspector that is an avid hunter, and I'd say shooting expert, Garrett Gabrial. He has a website called KBM Outdoors. He does video and photography of guided turkey and deer hunts..

thanks for the replies guys and great ideas on the zooming in and out at different speeds as well thanks

i did have a problem today though, i had made a nice 5 min film with two time lines running at the same time 1 hq banner and the other running my 1967spud logo i also had some music playing nicely in the back ground , all i wanted to do was add some naration but it kept coming up "could not open that device" or very similiar to that

i got round it by saving that project and reopening it as a single film clip and narating over that , but surly i should have been able to narate over the original

hope you see what i mean as its difficult to explain in words

anyway thanks guys

Sometimes VS does get a little cranky on things like adding narration. You might be better off taking the route you've taken. VS was developed using a Step method, Step-1 capture, Step-2 Edit and so on to Sharing. Any audio has always been on the 2nd to last step, so rendering your project or using the VSP (project file) as a video clip (commonly referred to as "nesting"), would probably be better. Doing narration while VS plays the project is problematic when It can not play it smoothly. This could cause the audio/video to lose sync.

With the New Blue PiP filter you have numerous possibilities. It takes playing around with it to really learn how to use it. It does have the ability to fade-out your image. This is done by adding keyframes to the filter, and then changing the Transparency level accordingly. There are separate transparency settings on the filter for boarders and shadows, as well as the image itself.

You should be able to add transitions, such as a dissolve to any image or video on any of the overlay tracks. It's done differently though. Just drag one clip so that it overlaps the adjacent one. VS will create the transition. Now select that transition on the timeline, then go to the transition library/organizer and drag the transition down to the timeline over the one you want to replace.

First using Chroma-Key (blue or green screen) the video clip must be on an overlay track. It is found on the Attribute tab, titled Mask & Chroma key. Click on it which opens a dialog window, then you need to check the box beside Apply overlay options, which in turn will active the Type box. The default is Chroma key. You can use the color box to set the color, or the eye-dropper to select the color from your clip. Then you can also adjust the similarity to that color in the digital box to the right. It also allows for a "cropping", by adjusting the height and width based on the color.

Here is another example of picture in picture effect that I picked up using the tutorials - This was a solo effort from start to finish using my Canon HG10 and editing with VSX3. Only the second time I have used my green screen - had to film on a bright day as I do not have any lights yet. The film was more of a technical exercise in trying to more effectively use green screen and overlay techniques and using the cropping tools to fit it into the mirror. I filmed it in less than than 30 minutes although planning and editing took considerably longer. Would another pair of hands been useful - maybe - but it was more a challenge to make it work on my own.
