For VideoStudio to work in playback mode you have to have a default player that will allow you to play the video clip on your system, the only time VideoStudio plays the clip back is when you select Project. For example, when you play an MOV file in clip mode in VideoStudio it is not VideoStudio playing it back it is actually QuickTime, MPEG2 it would be whatever you have set to the default player.trevor andrew wrote:Hi Rob717
Thanks for the detailed reply.
I am aware of the problems with both Direct X and QuickTime, the latter reared its head some time ago with the installation of VS10, at that time QT V7 had to be reverted to V6
Tried with and without Smart Proxy
Smart Render on and off.
Successfully rendered to H.264, but playback fails in clip mode.
Rendered to Mpeg2, playback ok.
You mention that clip playback uses the default media player.
I cannot play the M2TS files using my media players which would suggest a missing codec.
But as VS is supposed to support H.264, it renders without problem, then why the clip playback problem.
Are you saying I have to purchase another codec just to make VS work correctly?
As I say I do not own a HD camera so don’t really need to fix this, nor do i have any HD camera software that i can install.
I feel as though I am hi-jacking the post when its vhalen that asked for help.
Locate one of the M2TS files on the computer system and right click and select properties, you should then see the what is the default program that you have set for opening M2TS files. Most likely it under "Opens With" it show unknown application, meaning there is no default program and that is why it will not play back in Clip mode.
To resolve the issue you would need to install a program that is able to play back your M2TS clips and then set it to the default player. VLC Player is a free one that you can use but does have some know issues playing back M2TS files and there is also Corel WinDVD that would allow you to play back M2TS files but you would have to buy it.
I hope this helps
