Same old stuff about confusion between menus and sub menus

Post by tonyjer »

Hi Everyone

It seems that whether you create one mpeg file or more (as I often have to do due to Win ME 4Gb file limitations) it is fiendishly difficult to only get one screen/menu with the chapters that have been created.

Even though you think you only have one menu you always get 2 when you burn the DVD(at least I do) You get the main menu which you click on to activate the chapter thumbnails-rather than the thumbails appearing immediately.

When you go to share/create disk/add video(s) and then try to create chapter points and menus you always get the results I am experiencing. It happens before your very eyes- drop down always says main menu then ... menu.

The only way round it seems to be to break up the project, create separate project files and then creat separate video files which themselves act as chapters. I have noticed that this is not satisfactory as you always seem to get a pause and some pixelation when the DVD moves from one vieo file to another.

Does this make sense? I hope so.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Many thanks

Menus, submenus, chapters

Hi Tonyjer. The problem you are describing is probably the weakest point in Ulead Video products. Whatever you do you always get a top-level thumbnail which is superfluous and annoying to say the least. You have to create separate projects and put them together to get a proper multi-chapter top-menu. I have written on this problem several times in the past hoping that the development team will get rid of this major problem in future releases in vain. If anyone has a solution help is highly welcome.

If I'm not mistaken (or I will be corrected quickly) you could achieve what you wish by deselecting make menu. You don't need a menu to get chapters on a single clip.

I'm sorry, I stand corrected, you don't get a menu page but no thumbnails for the chapters either. You can select them but there's no on-screen selection page .

which version of VideoStdio are you running? In later versions, you go into the Advanced section of the Menu step, and select whether or not to have a "Title" menu -- if you don't have that menu, you will only have a chapter menu (as long as you have selected to create menus).
