Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi
Please can someone help me. I am using the latest VideoSudio Pro x3, and loving it, compared to everything else i have used.
I have a whole lot of dvds that were made for me of various horse races, and i am trying to get them from vob to mpg, each dvd has a main menu that has the various races on them.
My problem comes in is that when i am in capture mode and "import from digital media", the different races from the dvd are put into mpg files in my video folder, that part is perfect and exactly what i want, except at the end of each race it is also importing the menu as the last frame, instead of just the race.
I have tried a lot of other software, and they dont do the same thing, they just give me the race.
How can i stop the menu from appearing as the last frame, without having to crop each race once it has been imported?
Also after i have imported each race i split it into 2 scenes of the actual race and interviews, but then the interview audio goes slightly out of sync with the video, whereas it was not like that before i split into scenes. How do i prevent that?
I really love the software and hope these 2 problems have solutions.
Thanks
Cliff

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi Cliff
I had a similar issue when capturing Dv-Avi using Split by Scene.
Each clip having a single frame belonging to the adjacent clip.
So when you say a frame from the menu, can you check again to see if the frame is from an adjacent clip.

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi Trevor
Thanks for your reply.
The menu is the the "VIDEO_TS.VOB" file. All the other files are "VTS_01_1.VOB", "VTS_01_2.VOB" etc.
Please tell me if you think there is a way of getting rid of the menu image after each split scene, when i say split scene it is not when it does scene detection, but it is happening when i import the dvd onto the hard drive and it automatically splits it up for me.
In fact i dont mind getting rid of the menu off the dvd altogether if it will help, just not sure how.
Thanks

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi Cliff
I am not sure whats going on here.
As a test I imported a DVD having 12 titles, this imported perfectly (12 Mpegs) down to the last frame. That is there were no extra frames. It imported only the titles not menu’s.
Regarding Audio out of sync’, did you simply cut the clip to separate the Interview or use split by scene. I would simply use cut.
…………………………………………………
Have you applied all patches for Video Studio.?
also
Manually updating Direct X has been known to cure some strange problems with Video Studio.
There is a post at the top of this forum with a link for the download.

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi Trevor
When i import it also doesnt show me any extra frames, and also doesnt show that the menu has been imported, yet when i watch the clips after it has been imported it shows a flash of the menu as the last frame.
I used split by scene, and then combined some of the scenes. Do u think this could be giving me the audio out of sink ?
I know it sounds like a weird problem i am having.
Thanks

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi
X2 and x3
Using Split by Scene causes one frame from the second clip to be lift over as the last frame on the first clip.
Use the navigation buttons below the preview screen to navigate to the last frame.
Now use the digital clock to nudge the video frame by frame.
You will notice the last frame does not belong to the clip. Use the square brackets to remove/trim the clip (in clip mode)
I approached Corel Support but was just wasting my time. They said it wasn’t a problem as nobody had complained in the past, they were not prepared to test split by scene to prove it either way.
I do not think this incorrect cut will cause your audio sync’ problems just in case
you may be best to manually cut the video, after all you will probably continue to trim the ends of the clips you have created.
As a test, you could save the DVD files to your hard drive.
Re-name the Vob files as Mpg
You should be able to insert them to the VS timeline.
Play them and check for audio sync. If its on the original then that’s the problem.
Or use Windows media player to check the files.

Using VideoStudio Pro X3 13.6.2.36 I created a video disc, I then imported the disc using the "Import from Digital Media" located under the "Capture Tab". Once imported I played the video in the editor and was not able to duplicate.
What is the version number that you have installed now? you can find it by launching the Corel Guide located at the top right of the Advanced Editor and then select the two gears in the Guide and select Help and then About VideoStudio Pro X3. Right above the SN you will see the build number, check to see if it is the same as mine, maybe they fixed it in the latest build?

I think the OP is ok in importing the DVD.
It’s the subsequent Split By Scene that is creating the problem with an extra frame being left over on adjacent clips.
Ok Try this
1 Open X3
2 Add the library video files V14 to V21
3 Render to DVD
4 Add this file to the same timeline allowing you to easily compare clips.
5 Right click and select Split by Scene
6 View the last frame in each clip.
In the past, earlier versions of VS were ok but I have just tried VS 10 with the same results.
Maybe the installation of X2 – X3 has changed some common files????

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
I think the Split-by-Scene is not accurate enough, especially if there's not a large contrast in detail in your video. This goes mainly for video clips that were not from DVDs having menus. The motion-menus/menu-in/menu-out probably adds to this. Just like transitions, these motion menus are borrowing frames from the video clips, so the automated process of Split-by-Scene will have a real difficult time in making frame-accurate cuts. If you use SBS (Split-by-Scene), in this manner, you must then manually make your frame-accurate cut manually. I think it's part of editing anyway...
I've never put much faith in any of the automated, wizard type functions. I think these are about as smart as the "Wizard of Oz".. dummy is just hiding behind a curtain, thinking no one will discover him. Well Toto did...

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
Hi Ron
Split by Scene was always accurate, down to the last frame until I installed X2.
Some weeks ago I was able to use VS 10 accurately, then repeat with X2, not so good.
Now I find VS 10 is acting up.
The problem also shows when capturing to DV and selecting Split by Scene.
I have worked with DV capture since I started video editing, (VS 5) a lot of years and have never had problems with this rogue frame. Always the split was accurate.
Come back Ulead.

Re: Keeps Adding Extra Frame
So you started with VS5 too...
I've just made it habit to do anything that requires accurate cutting, manually. I just don't trust the automation..
