You still need a version of QuickTime installed for VS to work with MP4, MOV and any other QuickTime associated files.

QuickTime 7.6 would be the best one to go with

More info ...

the really strange thing is that this happens only with certain projects. I created a reasonably complex movie the other day with VS proX3 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfKXuiRhdxY if you are interested) but a similar video using the same footage sources (second part) keeps crashing!

I'm going through and deleting various components in a hope that I can figure out exactly which is causing the crash ... this is a 5 min vid with over 80 edits ... I really do not want to do it again!

Hi,

I get exactly the same issue since I have installed VideoStudio X3. I've tried to create a movie from MOV files created by Canon 5DMarkII and I geta crash as soon as I run a rendering.

The issue occurs in the CoreAudioToolbox.dll from Apple. The only workaound I found is to uninstall QT and reinstall an older release. The issue here is iTunes 9.2 does not work anymore with an older version of QT.

So, this means you cannot install VideoStudio x3 and the last version of iTunes on the same machine :(

I've opened a case to the Corel Support in France for several weeks and I've never received any reply....So, I think I'll sell my software and get another one from Adobe or Sony.

Regards

Marc

Yes, this seems to be an unresolved issue.

So essentially, anyone who has an iPhone, the most popular phone in the world, cannot use Video Studio X3 ...

That is ... not very good ... I'll be getting another bit of software too I think, as it seems there is no way to make this program stable, AND the total lack of official support is appalling. That Corel relies on you guys to do their dirty work for them ... that will make me think twice about ever getting another corel product ... what a waste of $100

Thank you for all your help though, even though none of it worked.

Bottom line?

DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM.

I have a similar problem.

I am new to camcorders and editing. I have a Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder with the accompanying bundled ImageMixer 3 SE software.
I copied four .mts files from the SD card to my hard disk, and used ImageMixer to combine them into a single .m2ts file. I then got stuck trying to use that software to edit the resulting file. In particular, I want to delete segments from it. So I downloaded a trial version of VideoStudio to see if I could do better with it. (If so, I will be happy to purchase it.) I did manage to trim off a small segment from the beginning. I wasn't sure what to do next, so I searched the menus and found the rendering choice. I chose that, and the program started chugging away. It seemed to take quite a long time, considering that the whole video is only about 3 minutes long. But at the end it crashed with exactly the message reported above. Later I had similar results after another try at editing. I haven't yet tried to send the results to Canon, but what I read here makes we doubtful about the prospects of accomplishing that. Note that the file was an m2ts file.

No. I think it is probably because of Quicktime as suggested but because I've got an iPhone (like half the rest of the population) I dont seem to be able to fix the problem.

I've now given up and since it does not appear like there is any official support I guess I've just wasted $100 ... oh well, first and last corel product I buy.

I have successfully worked around this issue now, by converting all of my MOV files to AVIs using the recommended free "Any Video Converter" program. the conversion settings I used under custom avi were xvid codec, 1280 x 720, bit rate 5000, frame rate 30, and quality seems good. my compliation renders without errors including sound tracks (wav and mp3), added m2t video files, jpgs, and titles and transitions.

I rendered using HDV > 720p 30 fps for PC mode.

I don't know why this issue has not been resolved. Corel seems to indicate that MOV files are fine. I hope this helps somebody else who is frustrated. So the bottom line is simply "NEVER USE .MOV FILES WITH VIDEO STUDIO X3".

MOV files are fine. It's the version of QuickTime that causes the problem. Apple is constantly updating the version of QT. For whatever reason Corel does not release patches to keep up.

My problem was not only with .MOV files, but with MP4's as well.

And depending on what type of MPEG4 you are using, some use the QT6 codec, while others use QT7. You can see how this would cause problems with video editing apps.
