"Paste Into Selection" Function won't line up right

Post by Knightshade »

I’m experimenting with a 30 day trial version of PSP X3 trying to decide whether it’s worth upgrading – and I’ve already come across what appears to be at least one major problem I never encountered in previous versions. Unfortunately the problem involves two functions which I tend to make very extensive use of – the “Paste as Selection “(Ctrl+E) Function and the “Paste Into Selection” (Ctrl+Shift+L) Function.
When I use the rectangular selection tool to cut out a portion of my photo, once I’m done editing it I was always able to paste the rectangle back where it belonged using the “Paste into Selection” tool. When I use this tool NOW with PSP X3 it won’t correctly align the selection I’m trying to paste back into the rectangular selection area ; instead it leaves a thin empty bar at the bottom through which I can see the layer below.
I’ve tried pasting my selection back manually using “Paste as Selection” – (so I can line up all the edges up on my own) - but once I’ve done that and then I de-select it, the same empty thin bar suddenly reappears at the bottom.
The only solution I’ve found so far to this problem is to first promote the portion I’m trying to paste up into a brand new layer before I de-select it – and then merge it back down again into the layer I wanted to put it in the first place.
I doubt the problem is in my system; it’s a relatively new HP tower that came with Windows 7, running an Intel i3 processor, 6G memory, and a 1Terrabyte hard drive.
Is this some sort of bug that Corel is working on a patch for? (if so, I don’t think I want to upgrade until one is found)

Yes, a few of us are experiencing this selection bug and can reproduce this 100% of the time.

Gigios spotted that it seems to occur if your selection does not contain a selection height that is an exact multiple of 4 pixels (his post and subsequent replies can be read here)

So for example, if your selection height is 128 pixels the floating selection will paste perfectly. If your selection height is 127 pixels you will lose the bottom 3 pixels (as the selection will drop back to 124 pixels)

It does make pixel editting quite exciting...

You've gotta be kidding me! I didn't want to believe that the latest version of this product would be relased prior to cleaning up what I consider such a significant problem - but it looks like apparently I was wrong.
What's most ironic is that my only reason for even considering upgrading to X3 (,,,I'm still playing around with the 30 day free license) is that my previous versions kept routinely crashing my system over other different issues (...mostly the "Mesh Warp" and the "Crop" Tools). I've been using PSP since the days of JASC version 8, and have had these problems occur across multiple computers. You can probably see from my specs that I tend to buy fairly robust systems from name brand manufacturers, so it's not likely to be a hardware problem.
Frankly based on what I use it for, there's no feature I can see in PSP X3 that I personally feel I need - other than perhaps a more reliable and stable program designed to run with Windows 7. But instead it looks like I'd be getting a program that ships with a brand new bug that i didn't have to deal with in previous versions. if there's something I'm missing here - maybe someone can point it out to me before my free trial runs out - but otherwise I'll probably be going right back to my original version.

For those who experience the selection bug it's a show-stopper, I have to agree.

I'll keep trying X3 every time another patch rolls out in the hope it will get resolved, but for now I've reverted to PSP 8 as well! :|
