audio codec(?) driver(?) problem with bizarre history

Hi All,

Just a final update to close out this thread, with a happy ending. I was able to import 8GB AVI DV files, edit, then (using MF7SE) generate the DVDs i wanted. it has been painful at times, but I'm learning a lot along the way and having fun. I couldn't have done it without the help I've received on this forum. Many, many thanks.

Of course, after this experience I have several more questions, but those belong in their own threads!
