VPX3 Hangs while creating video file or burning DVD

Post by divebuddies »

Have recently installed VSX3 and can't seem to figure out why I can't get a video file created or burn a DVD. System hangs every time. Have messed around with all of the system settings, updated drivers, etc. Any ideas would be most appreciated. System configuration is the following:

AMD 64X2 64 bit 5200+ overclocked at 2.73 GHz
4 Gig Memory at 800 Mhz
ATI crossfire graphics cards
200 Gig Hard drive
Virtual Memory on both C and D drives are manually set at 2024 min. and 10120 max
Sound Blaster 5.1 / 7.1 X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty sound card

What type of video files are you trying to render/burn to a DVD?

If they are MOV files check to see if you have QuickTime 7.6.6, there is a known issue with the latest version that could cause your issue. Also check to see if Windows has turned on compatibility mode, right click on the icon for VideoStudio and select properties, select the Compatibility tab and makes sure nothing is checked.

Thanks for the info. Most of the files are MOV files, some are AVCDH. I do have quick time 7.6.6. What now?

The issue is with the latest version of QuickTime, if you were to check the details of the error message in the Windows event viewer it would show the faulting module "CoreAudioToolBox.dll". This is something new that Apple put into the latest release of QuickTime 7.6.6, it is found in the Apple Application Support program folder.

AVCHD files are MP4 format, VideoStudio uses QuickTime to handle both AVCHD and MOV files.

The fix is to remove the following: Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update and QuickTime 7.6.6. Once you have removed the three programs download and install QuickTime 7.6 from the link below:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL762
***Please Note: Un-check the option to automatically download updates when installing because you don't QuickTime will just update back to 7.6.6 and you will have the same issue.***

Once you have done this you should now be able to render and also burn your project. I have spoken with Corel and they informed me that they are working with Apple to resolve the issue and should see it fixed in the future.

Also keeping your Video Card Drivers and Direct X up to date will help with performance, VideoStudio Pro X3 uses the GPU on the video card for rendering.

It never ends. Although I managed (with the boards help) to get VS up a running it appears that while the latest version of VS Pro X3 can't render or burn when Quicktime 7.6.6 is installed, the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 requires 7.6.6. Given, that Corel is using an Apple product as an integral part of VS Pro X3 it seems logical that Corel needs to address this problem quickly. My frustration is that my interaction with Corel (via phone support and email) has been completely unhelpful and they have been oblivious to this problem - or at least unwilling to acknowledge it. A detailed read of this board provides far more information. So I'm back at the well - any insight into the Quicktime, iTunes - VS Pro intergration problem?

Thanks.

This is nothing new, as it seems about every version, or at least every other version this Q.T. problem occurs. The cure or workaround is always to revert your Q.T. version back to an earlier one..:(

I"m not into the HD video yet, still using the good old DV from my Digital-8 camcorder. I've been trying to keep up with Ken Berry's posts concerning AVCHD, and HD video. IIRC, some Q.T. mov files use the h.264 codec in a MOV file container, and VS uses the MPEG-4 container, or VS sees any AVCHD file as MPEG-2, which may have been produced in your camcorder as some other format. This is not necessarily a fault of VS, but of the lack of a real standardization in the industry. Hardware & software producers tend to do "their thing" just a little differently.

So with all that said, I don't foresee them doing anything differently, they haven't for several years now..;)
