asf files ??
I have a dxg camera which records Mp4s. unfortunately when I downloaded the chip the files are called asf instead of mp4. I have the mp4 plug in for ulead 9, the first 4 files were recognised but now the last 10 are not being loaded into studio. It says that files cannot be edited, then asks if it should perform pre-processing which it seems to complete but then I get the message ! file is not editable, File cannot be indexed.
can you help me please

As far as I know *.asf files are a windows media files same as *.wmv.
You should be able to change / rename the files to *.wmv
Providing the files are good and not corrupt, then VS should recognise them.
If you are unsure copy the files then rename.
There was a posting regarding this problem some time back, do a search.
Hope this helps

asf files
unfortunately that still didn't do it, I renamed the file. It will play in windows media player, real player etc. but vs8 still does not recognise it.

It's interesting that VS9 recognized some of the .asf files. Ulead's VS9 documentation indicates that VS9 will only recognize .asf files for output, not input. My understanding is mp4 files are not the same .asf so the mp4 plugin wouldn't be helpful for them
My knowledge of Microsoft's .asf (advanced system format) is basic but it was my understanding that while some .asf files can be edited, others can not be because the file itself does not contain the required index info. that will allow a video editing program to work. Check out the Videohelp forum's ASF info. Here's a link which includes a free .asf tool

Is it worth checking to see if you need to install any of these CODECs?

Some info there about ASF containers, as well, somewhere.
