adding template where no menu or useing first clip as intro
Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to access the inbuilt templates in Video Studio X2 pro when you do not wish to create a menu or use the first clip as the introduction to your movie. In other words I have put in all the data click share, dvd, then the options mentioned come up but it appears that unless you put in menu etc. you cannot use the templates. Am I wrong?? Or can you access the templates when making the movie. Thank you in anticipation

Sorry, but I am rather confused. What would you use the templates for if not for making a menu? That's what they are -- menu templates...
If you are only talking about inserting Chapters, you can do that through Add Chapters, where you can manually select chapter points or insert them at regular intervals. And you don't need to build a menu for that or use a template for that matter...

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
Hi again, sorry if I was confusing. I know what the templates are usually used for but sometimes they offer a nice picture or animation to use at the beginning of a very short movie. You see I have just done a presentation for a funeral and they wanted it to just go straight into the movie and I wanted it to begin with an animated template using a collection of photos both very old and up to date of the person concerned. I sometimes use the movie wizard which allows me to use the templates which are available in that section and then edit in the video studio editor and thus go straight into burning a dvd (just making use of the animations etc which are available in the templates). Hope that makes more sense. Rae

Hi Rae
There appears to be some confusion regarding editing and burning a DVD.
The Movie Wizard uses your video files to create a project, you select the template and the wizard builds the project, it then takes you to the editing section, loading the project to the timeline where you manually complete the project.
I assume this part to be the collection of photos…………
You could treat this section as a separate video, share Create Video File will render the project to a separate file.
Your main movie could be rendered in the same way creating a second file.
Another option would be to build one project using the intro and main files as one project. Render this to a new video file or Share Create Disc-DVD will render in the burner module.
Either way your ready to burn the disc.
If you have created the video files…..From a new project Share Create Disc-DVD
From the first window Add Video Files (top left icon)
Arrange the two clips in the correct order.
Uncheck create menu.
Both video files will play when the disc is inserted into a DVD Player.
To the lower left of this window is the option to Use First Clip as Introductory video, this will play the first video when the disc is inserted to a DVD player, then continue to play the second. (I am unsure of its affect when disabling the menu?)
Navigation controls.
These allow you to select what happens to the disc when playing, whether it auto repeats or plays once. I am unsure of its affect when disabling the menu?
But at least you are aware of it. (hit the Options Cogwheel lower left)
Reflecting on your editing options I think creating two single video may be the way to go, you can play all, or separate the play, at least it gives you the options that a single file does not.
Menu Templates
As you have disabled the Create Menu there will be no templates available cos your not creating a menu.
If you were to use the menu you have the option of customizing the templates.
Maybe adding your own background image or video, or using the “collection of photos video” as a background.
Many ways to go……………..

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
But I believe the OP wants to use the image of one of the menu templates in his actual video. He does not want to use a menu, but the image of the menu (I presume without the buttons, thumbnails, etc.) inserted into his project. Please correct me if I am wrong raejohn.

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
Hi black dog, You are absolutely right. That is exactly what I want to do. Use either the image/animation as part of my movie with no buttons or thumbnails. I can go right through the wizard and use the templates and then go to video studio editor and then the image/animation appears as part of the movie which is what I want. There's more templates to select in the VS editor and I would like to be able to access these extra templates to use in the same way as mentioned above.
I am not having any trouble with the editing or burning it is just that I want use of the animations apart from using them as a menu - maybe you could say I am just using them as a title page? Rae

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
The problem, though, is that we are talking about two quite separate sets of templates. You are used to using those wizard clips which are designed specifically to form part of your video itself. The menu templates, however, are meant to be part of the menu, and are converted separately to video format as part of the disc burning process.

Hi, well thanks for the info. It looks like you cannot use the VS editor menu templates for anything other than the menu. Just a thought! Are there any more templates available for the wizard anywhere??? Rae

Hi Rae
Have you installed all the extra content to X2
How many templates do you see when using the Movie Wizard?
and
How many do you see when creating a Menu?
If you were to tell us which specific template you wished to duplicate, just maybe we could come up with some ideas?

Hi again
VS installed many images and video samples that the program use to create its menus and other effects.
You should be able to find them here, location depends on your operating system, which we know little about.
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\EditingStyle\
And here
C:\Program Files \Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\Samples
And some BMP paper samples here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\Paper
Be careful not to remove or change these as they may be part of the program.
But you can copy them to another location and then use in VS.

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying. Information you requested: In movie wizard I have 64 templates in total and in the Editor I have 95 all up - seems like a huge number so I guess I have the lot. With regard to my computer: It is a Dell Dimension DV051 Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 280 Hz, 2.79 GHz, 1.99GB of RAM and I have an external drive - 640mb (I think). I will update my profile with this information. I will have to uninstal VS as I had installed the New Blue FX Transitions (the ones which were thought to be free) as there is no other way of deleting them apparently. At this time I will check out the templates as per your instructions together with the paper ones and in that way if I do anything wrong I won't have to worry as I will be reinstalling. (Something that I have put off). With regards to instructing me on how to make a "favourite template" myself I feel that unless it is something I could do - very basic in other words - then don't worry as I am in no way technically minded (a woman!). Thank you all so much for your imput. I have learnt so much by reading other peoples problems and your answers.

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
Hi Rae
Yes I see that amount.
Given that we are able to customise the menu templates, saving them to our ‘favourites’ gives us even more.
To do this:-
Share Create Disc……..
From the second window, choose a template from the ‘gallery’
From the ‘Edit Tab’ simply choose the Customise option.
Opens a new window.
Below the preview window is an icon ‘Add to Template Menu’ the option is greyed out at the moment.
Changing anything from the left hand panel will allow you to save the template.
You cannot alter the text from this option, but can change the fonts etc.
So add a different background image or audio,
It will be available in the Favourites gallery.
Hope this Helps

Re: adding template where no menu or useing first clip as in
With regards to my original enquiry re templates etc. I am receiving tutorials from seeitdoit and amongst them was one for photo impact x 3. I read a few of the forums re PI and from what I have read it would seem that it could be a good addition to Video studio as I would be able to make further slideshows save them and bring them into video studio thus giving me more template menus etc. There is a special for Corel Paint shop pro x3 at the moment too and I wondered if you could advise of which program would be of most benefit to me. From some of the comments it would also appear that PI is on special too at the moment one quoting $19.99 (could have been pounds or U.S. Dollars?) but some say it is going to be phased out and no support would be available. I would like to hear re compatible programs to go with Video Studio. I would only be using it to enhance photos, photo effect and for slideshows that could be used in conjunction with VS.
