Complimentary Corel KPT Filters = Not so complimentary

Post by nitroman84 »

Hello, I received the link for these free plug-ins via the Corel Guide a while back and they worked just fine for about a month or so. Now every time I open them they complain about an invalid serial number (although just clicking okay without entering a name or serial makes them work as usual). This is a huge annoyance and it is leading me to believe that anything Corel offers as "complimentary" is not to be trusted. I have sent customer support an email about the issue, but I'm sure you all know how long it takes them to respond (if they do). So just as a heads up you may want to steer clear of these, or if anybody else has had a similar issue any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That is strange, as I have the bonus KPT filters for months now, and not a single problem. I've been using the KPT Goo a lot lately so I will keep an eye out for this and report if I noticed this problem, but like I said the past few months I've not has that problem.
Currently using PaintShop Photo Pro X3

I do like the filters, and they did work great for awhile but looking at a nag screen every time they launch is just not worth it to me. Hopefully support will take care of the problem.

Mine also continue to work fine... I am wondering, though, if you actually downloaded them and let the internal install process set them up, or whether you downloaded them, but later installed them manually from where they were stored on your computer. If the latter, then I have had instances in the past where the subsidiary or related program gets a bit confused about serial numbers and/or activation...

Yes, I allowed them to download and then install automatically. However I did back up the downloaded installer file and save it externally. Given what you said I may just try a re install and see how it goes.
Thanks

UPDATE, the installer has a built in repair feature but it resulted in the same issue. I guess I will just have to wait for Corel to resolve this one... If I live that long

Well I found the solution if anybody else has this problem. I just totally uninstalled using your uninstaller 2010 removing all registry entries associated with the program then did a fresh install. No more nag screen! :D I also noticed after a re install that KPT Goo's editing window was cut down to about 2/3 of the screen, none of the other filters were effected. The solution I found to this (if you have a backup of your previous system image) is to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Languages\EN\PlugIns\KPT and replace the folders metaos,Prefs,Presets and Readmes with the ones from your backup, but do not touch any other file in this folder or you will get the same problem all over again. If you do not know how to access a backup here is a tutorial (for windows 7). Right click the start button ( the round button with the multi colored windows symbol) click Properties and then click customize. Scroll down until you see System administrative tools, click the center dot (display on the All Programs menu and the Start menu) click okay then click apply. you should now have Administrative tools as an option when you click the start menu. Now click the start button, Administrative Tools. When the window appears click Computer management. Now you have a new window with multiple options, click Disk Management, this will list all disks currently attached to your computer. At the right of the window you have a menu called (More Actions) click that tab and select (Attach VHD) Browse to the location your backups are stored and select a backup. Click a Backup file and click okay. Your backups created in windows can now be mounted just as they were a physical disk and you can browse and copy from them as they were a physical disk.

Hi: it's now 2013... I haven't used Painshop Pro in a while and when I went to use the KPT plugins I experienced the exact same problem described here:

"An invalid serial number has been encountered. Please reenter your registration information."

Is nitroman84's solution from 2010 still the only way to fix this issue? Complete uninstall and re-install?

BTW, I was wondering if KPT is still part of the Corel packages (X4, X5... X6?). I might upgrade.

Thanks.

Yes x4 and X5 come with the KPT filters without needing to get the Ultimate package. They are the registration incentives.
