Yes! You're supposed to hear the audio.

What formats are your audio/video? Where did your file come from? (If you load the file into the VS timeline and right-click, you will see the "properties".)

There are many-many audio/video formats, format combinations, and format variations. You may have one of the "problem" formats.

Often you can convert the file with a 3rd party tool, but we need to know what you are working with and what you're trying to do with it.

Is your sound problem just occurring when you're scrubbing the time-line? If so there's an option in the Preferences, where you can choose to have audio while scrubbing or not to. It's found on the first tab (General) of the Preferences dialog, at the very bottom.

I have completely rebuit the box, sound works while editing, and now rendering speed is much better, a little under 1 min for 1 min of finished movie. I do have some problems with OOS audio when I use an mpg that was created recording tv with an Matrox g450etv capture card. I've tried splitting the audio and shifting it, but can't seem to find the right spot. It's very strange, but I feel as though the lenght/speed is off. I move it so that it cool at 2 min, then it'll be off at 10 min, even worse at 30 min. If I shift it to be close at 30 min, it's way off at 2 min !

I'm chasing my tail

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

PS, when I import a dvd made on my magnavox dvd recorder, edit out commercials, render/burn, it's great. But mpgs made with the Matrox capture card are not synced at all.

Can you right-click on one of the MPEG files from your Matrox, select properties and post them here? It may just be one of those things that occur with various higher-compressed video files.

Also are you referring to your OOS being in the Preview playback or on your finished product? Preview playback in VS is a rough idea of your project. It must throw all edits, effects, filters, ect., together on-the-fly. Which depending on the complexity of your project and the robustness of your system, may not be very smooth at all.
